I am trying to play Crusader Kings 2 via Steam on Wine. I finally have steam running effectively (had issues with no text, created DWrite and set it to 0) and downloaded CK2, but when I click "Play" it has to do the first time setup. The issue is when it tries to download/setup Visual C++. The error simply says "Setup.exe has encountered a serious problem" and aborts.
I tried going to Winetricks to set it up, but I received the same error. This is my first time using Wine and am doing so because CK2 does not run very long (crashes after 10 mins or so) with an Intel HD 3000 GPU. I have posted the Winetricks log below, but it may or may not have anything to do with my issue.
I appreciate any help.

Steam Issue with Visual Library
Re: Steam Issue with Visual Library
That's one thing you have to fix.err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.
Make sure you have the latest winetricks (get it from http://winetricks.googlecode.com/svn/tr ... winetricks), and install to a clean wineprefix.
Re: Steam Issue with Visual Library
Thank you for your reply. I have gotten a little further, but I have encountered another problem.
I started fresh. Uninstalled my old wine. Installed the latest stable version. Upgraded everything (basically started from scratch completely following this sites tutorials and FAQs). Installed steam and CK2. Ran CK2 in my terminal from the SteamApps directory and the game started up no problem. Got through the first loading screen, picked my language and then half way through the second loading screen it crashed and completely disappeared. Below is what it spat out in my terminal while loading and upon crashing. If you have any other ideas they are greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Re: Steam Issue with Visual Library
I was just comparing the two logs and noticed the code you pointed out earlier occurred again.
So if that is still the issue, me starting fresh didn't fix it even though I managed to get further in the process this time around. So my question is: what did you mean by "install to a clean wineprefix"? and How do I make sure my winetricks is the latest? I was certain I upgraded everything. However, I am very new to this.

Re: Steam Issue with Visual Library
Sorry to keep posting in my own thread, but I think I may have discovered the exact issue.
The previous error you mentioned when googled led me to believe I needed Samba so I installed it and started it and re-ran the program (Crusader Kings II), but the same thing happened. However I noticed the particular code (pasted below) always occurs right before it crashes (at this point the loader in-game always says: "Loading Maps (Creating Borders)".
Output Code from Terminal upon crash:
err:heap:validate_block_pointer Heap 0x1e70000: bad flags 00000001 for in-use arena 0x2f7e4d50
