Error in installing Windows Office 32 bit on a Ubuntu 10.04

Hello,

I am installing Office 2010 32bit on my Ubuntu 10.04 32bit system.
Even after installing the packages such as msxml3, msxml6, vcrun2005 and vcrun2012 using winetricks, I am still unable to install Office.

I have attached the log file while installing Office 2012 32bit on a Ubuntu 10.04 32bit OS.
I am unable to attach the file thus have pasted few last lines of the log file below. Please go through it and let me know for the issue.

No native dlls are needed to install Office 2010. Delete the wineprefix and reinstall to a clean one following the instructions in the AppDB.

A wineprefix is the directory where Wine stores its fake C:\ drive. The default wineprefix is .wine, located in your home directory. Delete it the same way you would delete any other directory.

Deleted the entire folder as you suggested.

Now it tells me "Install MSXML version 6.10.1129.0". How should I install that ?

I tried from the winetricks but it shows me an option to install MSXML version 6.0 and not the specific "6.10.1129.0".+

What version of Wine are you using? You shouldn't be getting that message at all in current Wine.

No, it's not the correct version to use. Office 2010 will not install in any version older than 1.3.9, and it didn't really become usable until 1.3.35 due to various bugs that have since been fixed.

Upgrade to at least the latest stable release.

Thank you. I upgraded to "wine-1.4" and installed Office 2012 successfully.

Now, I am facing one more problem. I am unable to see the icon to launch the application.

That version is over 2 years old and no longer supported. Upgrade to the latest development release, and use the WineHQ packages. https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

If you still have problems in current Wine, start a new thread. This thread is 4 years old, and the problem here would NOT be the same as any problem encountered in current Wine.
