Ubuntu With MATE trying to run Portable Apps

Post by Daniella »

Ubuntu With MATE trying to run the The PortableApps.com Platform 11.2. It on the Platinum List. I load it but can not find it after I load it.

I can do a search for it and find it that way sometimes but not all the time. I go to go back to the same place I loaded it and it tells me that the file can not be found. I have set the folders to show hidden folders but that is not doing any good. I am new to Linux, any help as to how I can run The PortableApps.com Platform 11.2 would be helpful.

There should be an icon for it on the taskbar while it's running. Just click it to bring back the window.

You didn't say what Wine version you're using. If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. I just tested it in 1.5.18 and it works.

There is no taskbar. The bottom panel was removed from when Ubuntu changed to the Unity desktop and my MATE desktop 'overlay' did not put it back. It should be under 'Places' or under 'Applications' but not finding it there at all. I even looked under System but not there. I am thinking that the MATE desktop is to buggy at this time for a person that is new to Linux to add to Ubuntu. The 4 different programs are not working well with each other at this time. Mostly with where MATE is putting stuff do to the fact that is has to override Unity. I will try Salix. It comes with the MATE desktop off the shelf. It is a very 'clean' version of Slackware. Then I will try to load The PortableApps.com Platform 11.2 on the WINE. Thanks for your help.
