Windows Live Essentials

Post by netsavy006 »

I'm trying to install windows essentials (specifically windows live mail)

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... r-programs

It isn't letting me install it on wine, it gives me an error message before the install even has a chance to show up.

Does anybody know how I can get windows essentials (windows live mail in particular) to install and run?

Thanks,
~ Andy

I don't know the proper mediums to ask about this, so I'm sorry if I'm doing this in the incorrect way, but is there a way that the wine team could work together to help develop the ability to get this app working?

Thanks,

That should probably be in the FAQ, but isn't yet!

Here's how it usually works: some wine developer gets interested in an app, either
because he needs it himself, a lot of users need it, or some company needs it and
is willing to pay to get it working

I kind of doubt that many Wine developers use MS Live mail.
Judging by
http://litmus.com/resources/email-client-stats
not many users care about it, either.
And as far as I know, no company has put up money to get that app working under Wine.

So you're probably out of luck, unless you're a developer yourself and you want to start
hacking on it. Even then, since it's a Microsoft app, chances are it'll be hard to get working.

Why not switch to, say, gmail? Or just use hotmail's web interface?
