Need help installing Ares Galaxy Free

Post by AhOkie »

I am a brand new Ubuntu Baby born August 31st 2012 LOL! :)

I installed Ubuntu 12.04

I want to install the P2P program Ares Galaxy Free just like
I did on my WIndows 7 PC.

I thought I installed Wine correctly but I am not givin any choices
other than the default opener archive and it just shows a bunch
of icons with various extentions and no way that I know of to open
the zip or exe file like I did in WIndows.

I go to the Open Software Center but I do not see where to edit
anything.

Bare with me as I am still learning.

Any advice appreciated. :)

What did you download? If it's an installer like
http://superb-dca3.dl.sourceforge.net/p ... taller.exe
you can just double-click on it and it will install.

If it's a zipfile, you need (as you know) to unpack it. Happily, this is done almost exactly as in Windows: right click it and select Extract Here!
(See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FileCompression
and about 2/3rds of the way through http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXyCM7lg20E for examples.)
Once you've extracted it, you need to go down into the real folder that was created during extraction,
and run the setup.exe inside.
