It's official on the 17th, but available to test or use as a promo for now.
It installed and complained about DirectX after install.
When started, it didn't seem to get beyond the second screen. It shows a
galaxy turning in the background and a window in the front ground that
shows "upgrade," "trial," and "pre-order." Any click on those just opens
the web browser.
Maybe a newer version of wine will get further.
I installed it and will take a look again in the future sometime.

Spore (trial) working?
I am having the same issue. I am currently running Wine 1.0-rc5. Can get to the screen past the initial "preorder Spore" screen, with the rotating galaxy. The colors appear washed out, but I can interact with the spiral (click and drag to alter rotation).
I can run the same executable on my windows laptop without issue.
