Prepackaged wine games
In Mac OSX, Many people use wine, And prepackage it so it just works. You could find games in Mac OSX, Like Vampires The Masqurade: Bloodlines and it would be all packaged up and it would just be a .app file or something that you could just run. Is there any thing like this, Or any way to do this in Ubuntu so you don't have to do it yourself and fail for a million and one reasons you have no idea how to figure out?
Re: Prepackaged wine games
You cannot distribute a game or app without the copyright owner's permission.
Winetricks can download and install some apps and games that are legally available for free download.
Crossover and PlayOnLinux have scripts to install some proprietary games and apps, but they do not distribute the games/apps themselves; you must already own them.

In other words, the people who do that on the Mac are breaking the law, and
should not be surprised if software vendors start breathing down their backs.

Re: Prepackaged wine games
Ideally, the software vendors would say "Hey, cool, zillions of people are running our
apps on the mac, let's ship that and start making some money". It would be really
nice if that happened at least once.

Re: Prepackaged wine games
some people put out full copies like this... but the ideal and more common way is just putting out the wrappers. People can download the wrapper, install the game inside it and play... they don't need to even know Wine is there or mess with settings or anything.

Re: Prepackaged wine games
Yes, I believe wrappers is what I was talking about. Can any of you help me with that at all or point me somewhere for that or anything at all for Linux? Even just a website that has a bunch of those wrappers or games inside them with the wrappers already would be great, Thanks.
Re: Prepackaged wine games
Who would dare to do such to for ex. FSX? I think such packages are just a waste of time. Mac users will sooner or later stumble over something and end up, anyway, to have Wine installed the usual way.
Those packages only get huge...alike static libs and can even conflict. Some do that, only to pretend that they were native, to get more customers.

To anyone who might reply: only post links to legal wrappers, i.e., from the developer or for software whose license allows redistribution.UnitedAnarchy wrote:Yes, I believe wrappers is what I was talking about. Re: Prepackaged wine games
thats completely rubbish. Most people will never need Wine installed the usual way, which is horrid on OSX since its 100% compile yourself and run command line. There is no pre-built packages, or even any GUI integration at ANY level. I make and only use Wineskin, as it uses normal Wine, its really no different... I even put a way to launch it off command line and use it like "normal" Wine for testing if people want to. Its just pre-built and has a lot of nice tools so you can build a wrapper easily.ahso wrote:Who would dare to do such to for ex. FSX? I think such packages are just a waste of time. if its a "wrapper" it shouldn't have the game in it... most people who put up full games will call it a full port.dimesio wrote:To anyone who might reply: only post links to legal wrappers, i.e., from the developer or for software whose license allows redistribution.
