After wine 1.5.7 (ie: 1.5.8 and 1.5.9) I can no longer play Left For Dead 2 in Steam. It fails to load with the Steam "error (2)"
Previously (1.5.7) I had no problems.
My /steamapps folder is a symlink. This is the cause of the problem.
But I am not sure if this is a problem introduced by wine or by a l4d2 update.
Interestingly TF2 (also a HL2.exe based game) still works fine (with a symlink to steamapps).
I realise that I can just move the steamapps folder back into the Steam folder instead of symlinking it, but at 50Gb+ this is not always practical. So i am looking for alternatives or a fix.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Any workarounds that do not involve no-symlinks?
Is the wine dev team aware of this behaviour? and if so is it a wine issue?
L4D2 - error code 2
Re: L4D2 - error code 2
I hadn't heard of this issue.
The usual way to get the developers' attention is to file a bug,
ideally with the results of a regression search to find the
exact change that caused the breakage.
