I have been running an old Windows program, Parsons Technology Address Book, in Wine on PCLinuxOS for many years. I ran it under the latest version of PCLinuxOS kernel-3.2.18-pclos2.a64. I have been running it by clicking on the address database which is associated with the program, and the whole address book opens properly. Yesterday I made a link to Address Book and then changed the icon. At that point, clicking the link started Wine, and the proper icon appeared on the taskbar, but the program itself appears only as an outline--no addresses or even the presentation structure appear. So I deleted the link, but even clicking the database now results in just an outline of a window, with nothing in it.
Can someone help me bring back Address Book?
Thank you,
Jan

I went to the directory that has adbook.exe and ran wine adbook.exe. The result was the same--correct icon on the taskbar, window frame with the correct stuff on the upper right and left, including the icon, but nothing else in the frame.dimesio wrote:What happens when you run it from a terminal?

Magic
I cannot figure out why, but the problem is solved. I tried to copy the database to a USB drive, using Dolphin. As I began the copy, suddenly a window appeared called Default - Wine desktop, and it had the database on it. The copy was already underway. I clicked on that database, and it appeared in Address Book. However, the default window would not expand. I went back to configurator and unchecked the virtual desktop choice, and suddenly everything worked as before. I believe this should be written up in the Hogwarts monthly journal; it appears to have little to do with computer science.
