Can't open anything in Outlook 2010 [solved]

I just did a completely fresh install of Office 2010 into a completely fresh bottle for 1.5.7. I used the 'wine control' mail setup trick to create an account. Once started, it will connect to Exchange and download my mail. I can view the list of mail in different folders, but I can't actually read anything. I can't open other people's calendars, nor my own calendar items. Each of these gives me an error of some sort.

Reading Pane:
* no error, nothing appears

Double-click message:
* Cannot open this item.

Double-click calendar item:
* Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again.

Once connected to another person's calendar, when trying to view it:
* Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again.
* Note that the calendar is actually viewable, even though I get this error.

Trying to create new task:
* Cannot activate cell for editing. The cell could be read-only or noneditable.

I got an error when a reminder was supposed to pop up, but I didn't write it down. It was similar to the above messages.

I tried installing msxml6 via winetricks, but now Outlook crashes on start. I have no problem wiping the bottle and starting over, but I'd like to know what other people have set up to get it going before I do that for the 9th or 10th time in the last week. Any ideas?

Hi,

which linux are you using? Which graphics card and drivers? Ubuntu12.04 64 bits has some issues with wine, see sticky post above. If you look into appdb, you'll see, that it worked reasonably well with wine 1.5.3(4) on some linux distributions. Though I'd assume that wine's support for Outlook 2010 is still pretty flaky.

Sorry, I'm usually over-verbose if anything, and here I managed to leave out all the system details.

I'm running Gentoo, it's an ATI card using the Xorg open source drivers.

I wasn't able to get Office 2010 to install prior to the inclusion of .NET libraries in the base wine install (which appears to have started ~1.5.6). I had tried a number of the tricks out there, but I didn't have much luck and never pursued it hard enough to get it to work. On 1.5.6, the interface was a mess (icons were huge and pixelated, the ribbon bar took up a ton of screen real estate, which was probably due to the icon thing). I'm not sure, but I think I may have been able to open mail and whatnot, too.

you could try closed source ati drivers, though I doubt that it's a driver issue. If you are on 64bit gentoo, you should make sure, that you are compiling 32bit wine, see http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit and you might need to install 32 bit graphics drivers, too.

The best thing would probably be to start with a new wineprefix (.wine folder), get latest wine (1.5.

, install everything again and run Outlook from command line. Please do so and post terminal output or put it on pastebin.

I've had stability issues with the closed-source driver. I'm definitely compiling 32bit wine. I can use Office/Outlook 2007, so I don't think the 32 bit drivers thing is an issue.

I just updated to 1.5.8, created a new wine prefix, did a completely fresh install, set up a mail account, and started Outlook. The logs are below. I obfuscated any easily identifiable information in the logs and only included errors. Pastebin wouldn't even take the logs with all the fixme's. If you think the entire log for any of these three would be useful, I can upload them to Dropbox or something.

Way to many errs. Still it might be worthwile to look at the fixmes, because they may indicate missing libs or similar problems. One issue may be the missing tls lib, you probably need to install the gnutls lib (32 bit). Did you try latest wine (1.5.

or one of the wine versions which work well due to appdb?

and found this Ubuntu page which mentioned overriding riched20.dll. After overriding that, I'm able to open things in Outlook.

That just quotes the appdb,
