Hi I have tried all the guides I can find on the internet to run COD4 in Wine but everytime I fell short somewhere. I new to Linux and am running the latest version of Ubuntu (Hardy). I have an Nvidia 9800gt installed and running on my machine and can't wait to play COD4. I have the latest release of wine => 1.0-rc4.
Also I know I am going to run into a sound issue because I got Quake 4 running natively (Graphics were killer) but there was no sound.
If anyone could help me out I would much appreciate it. I know there are guides but some assistance in the process when I come to errors would be great and much appreciated.
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty 4
Could you maybe elaborate more on what the problem was? Maybe include details as
to what went wrong or maybe the output at console when you ran it?

Ok
Well I ran into problems a couple of times.
I usually run into problems at the checkinstall steps.
I have basically started from the beggining uninstalled the version of wine I had read from a number of guides for installing COD4 because none of them worked for me (don't think it was Wine itself) but I felt that was the best way to go.
To be more specific (sorry im a noob here with linux) I want to use the latest version of Wine which I do have. How do I get the patch that I need to run COD4. And how would I enter that into the terminal? I am not completely blind when using the terminal but I just learned my ABC's with it if that makes sense.

Re: Ok
What patch are you talking about? Why do you need some patch? When you just run COD4 with regular Wine what are the problems?kayfes wrote:How do I get the patch that I need to run COD4. Ok installed using newest wine
How do I run it from the terminal so I can list any errors that may occur?
First 2 errors
Cannot run from cd/dvd rom please insert cd/dvd
Error during initialization
Video card does not support enought textures for the direct x 9 code path
Got these trying to run Multiplayer from apps>Wine>programs>activision>COD4 MP.

Re: First 2 errors
There are number of howtos on AppDB. For example: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=10429kayfes wrote:Cannot run from cd/dvd rom please insert cd/dvd

Read and follow the instructions. To patch Wine you will need Wine's source code of course. To compile it you will need to install all the required dependencies: http://wiki.winehq.org/Recommended_Packages
