you can also give -perf argument to get on screen fps and many other things.

I'm running it like this:
wine gw2.exe -fps 50 -perf

Some other command line options:

I don't know what your system/setting are like, but I have no problem getting beautiful snow/smoke/fire etc effects.
Same, only issues I noticed were 2 crashes during gameplay during the weekend, the patcher crash, and the general low framerate when there's lots going on and I'm turning the camera.

System Specs:
6x AMD PhenomII 1090T Processors
16G RAM
GForce GTX 460 with 2G RAM
wine 1.5.0

I made a write-up about my experiences of playing GW2 on Linux during the BWE over at GWOnline.net.
http://guildwars.incgamers.com/blog/com ... x-it-works

Unless something bad happens during optimization, I concur that GW2 can be Platinum rated straight out of the gate. :D

Is the patcher issue enough to drop it down to gold?

Babysitting massive downloads really isn't fun. (ArenaNet even suggest to leave it running overnight)

If anything doesn't work, and there is no workaround, the rating should not be higher than silver. Restarting after crashing is not a workaround; a workaround would prevent crashes in the first place.

The crashes are "Temporary" until the game has installed all the updates, at which point you no longer get crashes and the game runs as good as platinum.

They are annoying, but for all intents and purposes cosmetic.

Sitting through 12 crashes or so gets you to a platinum game.

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place, but when I try to install using WINE 1.5.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 32bit, I get the downloader crash you all describe, but it doesn't "pick back up" where it left off, it starts over anew each time.

I've placing the Gw2.exe file in it's own folder in my home directory, so permissions shouldn't be an issue.

Any hints?

Just an update: My previous comment is now obsolete. Client was indeed resuming, but reporting 0%. Client is successfully downloaded at this time.

Not arguing that it's a platinum game once its installed.

Just that the installer having issues should be noted somehow.

Is this the sort of info that just gets a note on the app page, rather than making a difference to the game rating?

Having the GW2 beta run is great, but the beta runs off the CPU, not a graphics engine. Which may be why it's easily compatible with Wine. I'm sure (I hope) it will be fine with the full game, but I just wanted to point this out.

Platinum:
An application can be rated as Platinum if it installs and runs flawlessly ‘out of the box’. No changes required in winecfg.
If it installs flawlessly 'out of the box'.

GW2 clearly dosn't. The patcher crashes every 10,000 files or so, and closing it leaves it zombie on my system (Gentoo, running latest wine)

Does anyone think that they will *not* be issueing updates after release?

If the patcher gets a seperate application entry, then the game would get plat, and the patcher would get bronze as far as I'm concerned.

GW download issue

Post by cteam »

just run a bash script to download the client and kill the zombie process after it crashes:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
for i in {0..25..1}
 do
  wine /home/hephaestus/GW/Gw2Setup.exe
  sleep 30m
  killall Gw2.exe
 done
the sleep time and the number of iteration needed to complete the download my vary from computer to computer depending on connection speed...

this could count as a "work-around" i suppose

Hello,
I'm to ask some help, in fact I try to install GW2 but the download crash between 3 to 10%.

I don't really much know how wine or linux works (only know the basics) and it's the only topic I found talking about GW2 ans Wine.

I'm on a Xubuntu version, and both Wine and Xubuntu are update.

The only thing I have for asking help is my crash report (pretty long sorry) which I don't understand anything.

here it is :

Just keep running the patcher, or use that script from the post above yours.

The percentage is percentage of files left to download since you started downloading *this* time, so even though it starts from 0%, it isn't actually starting over.

Is anyone else getting a crash every 30mins or so tis time round?

With the release date confirmed less than 2 months away I suggest we focus debugging efforts on getting the trading post working (If they haven't fixed that by default)

It appears to be a permissions issue and someone has reported it working in BWE2 through wine in appdb so it should be do-able

I'm receiving the same error messages, but I already installed the game. Whenever I try to run it, it crashes. What can I do about this?

By "Already Installed" what do you mean: if you mean that you're fully patched, then more info on your setup might be useful, if you're just crashing on update patches, then it's the same issue everone else is having every 10,000 files or so, so just keep reloading the patcher untill you're fully patched. (It seems to be a data size issue, rather than a number of files issue, if anyone can tell me where to go looking for enough info to fix it, I will, but I haven't been into the wine source in a serious way yet, so I wouldn't know where to even start looking)

Point of data for the Trading post issue: I run wine in XP mode, only non-default is gameoverlayrenderer (Steam in-game overlay) is disabled, and the trading post didn't work for me.

Error still up, can login, but the screen after it crashes with the same error.

Wine-ran-in-terminal says:
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. {repeated ad nauseam}
fixme:keyboard:X11DRV_ActivateKeyboardLayout 0x4090409, 0000: semi-stub!
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.
fixme:ntdll:NtQuerySystemInformation info_class SYSTEM_PERFORMANCE_INFORMATION
fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module

Might be me who's running into this, or general problem.

I saw this in the asura training area but not the sylvari one. I also saw it when changing graphics levels.

Try a dif race and see what happens.

PS: Tell us if you get mouse look working...

Heh, I was just coming to ask if anyone had mouse look working. (Other than that's I'm running fine)

It's basically unplayable without mouse look though, which is a shame.

Rawinput doesn't help either - it just results in an infinite number of error windows complaining about rawinput...

This will need a specific fix... I hope I can at least reserve my char names at launch and come back in a few weeks when wine has it fixed :P

Fixed the startup-bug, had to grab AMDs fresh 12.6BETA drivers... not perfect but cuts it. ps JV: I couldn't even select a home world with this error, it crashed after I hit 'Play'.

As for mouse, no. Seems Mac also has the same problem.

Help please!

I tried versions 1.5.6, 1.5.8 and 1.5.9 and all had the same behavior.
I am running on Mac 10.6.8
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8GB
Video: ATI Radeon HD 4850

Login Page -> Play -> User Agreement [ Accept ]

After I click Accept then I get the following error:

Dynamic session lookup supported but failed: launchd did not provide a socket path, verify that org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist is loaded!
