Editplus 3.41 under Wine on Red Hat Linux: sftp?

Post by Annorax »

I am running Red Hat Linux and Wine 1.2.3 and trying to run Editplus 3.41. It works well except for sftp. When I try to connect to an sftp server using Editplus (Filezilla on the host OS to the same machine works) I get the error "Could not create E value". I talked to the developer who said he is using the Windows crypto API for sftp.

Looking at the link below, it says Wine should work with Editplus and sftp.

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... ngId=29903

I'm kind of new to Wine so could someone please help me out? Maybe I need to install some additional plugins or packages?

Thank you for any help.

That version of Wine is old and no longer supported. Upgrade to the latest development release. If it still doesn't work, post console output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

Thank you for your reply. However, I see at the link below that 1.2.3 is the latest available in EPEL 6:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/AndreasBi ... e_versions

To use the testing version, I get the following error.

yum --enablerepo=updates-testing upgrade wine

Error getting repository data for updates-testing, repository not found

Do you have any ideas on this?

Ask your distro. They do the packaging.

When browsing the below, I only see Wine 1.2.3:
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/

When browsing here, I don't see any version of Wine despite my link above saying 1.4 should be here?
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/testing/6/x86_64/

Am I looking in the right place? I am following the instructions "Download Red Hat / CentOS / Fedora packages" from this link.

I can't seem to figure out why Wine is not available in my repositories, but I have a virtual machine of Arch Linux and the latest version of Wine and I still see the same error described in my original post. There is nothing in the console output.

Is there anything else to try?

File a bug based on the test in current Wine.

As for the package problem, packages are built by the distros; ask your distro why there are no current Wine packages available.

I've logged 30863 to track this issue. Hopefully it can be looked at soon.

I've been checking the EPEL repository but there are no newer versions of Wine there. Aside from the standard repositories, are there any other ones for Red Hat that are good to use? Being new to Linux, I'm not sure if this is all there are.

I would look here:

I can't comment directly about RHEL and derivatives, though I wouldn't
be one bit surprised to find that RHEL is using the current 'stable'
version (1.4?). That fits with its philosophy: install only stable
packages for long-term maintenance. The same almost certainly applies to
CentOS since its an RHEL clone.

If you want RedHat bleeding edge, go with Fedora, not RHEL. I'm running
Fedora 16 and can confirm that it is currently on Wine 1.5.3 following
an update last Thursday. It is usually within 2-3 releases of the latest
version, even allowing for my weekly updating schedule.

I've logged a defect as above and it's been a few weeks in UNCONFIRMED status. Does this mean that the defect is still not accepted as a true defect and no one is looking at it?

This bug report? http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30863

There's not enough information in that bug report for anyone to do anything. You need to attach console output, and if the app has a free download, post a link so someone can try to reproduce the problem.

I wasn't aware it was waiting on information. Editplus is not free but easily found via Google and there is a 30 day trial.

Like I said in the bug, there is no console output. Is there something else I should provide?

Any progress on this? I'm running EditPlus 3.70 on Linux Mint 17 KDE and have this trouble resolving FTP sites via sftp. I get the "Could not create E value" error. I'm running wine1.6-amd64.
