Quickbooks Starter Edition

This is my first attempt to make something not-workable work in WINE. It's the single program that I still boot into Windows to run.

It seemed to install OK, tries to launch, then crashes.

Tried launching from the command line. Got:

Well duh. That was obvious once you pointed it out.

Installed the newest version of Mono available in Winetricks. Still no success.

Noticed that Winetricks didn't show .net to be installed, so checked the one for .Net Framework 2, and installed that as well.

Now I get:

Did you delete the wineprefix and start with a clean one before installing .NET? You need to; you can't mix Mono and .NET.

OK, I nuked everything and started again from scratch.

$ sudo apt-get install wine1.5

Then used Winetricks to install Mono-2.8.2 and vcrun2010.

(figured newer is better)

Installed Quickbooks 2012 from CD (via the confusingly titled WINE Uninstall Software)

Everything crashed midway through the install - both the WINE installer and the QB installer.

Am I having fun yet?

Actually I did another start from scratch.
Wine 1.5
Ran the Quickbooks installer from the command line (off the CD)
The install ran right through to the end, aside from two pop-ups asking to add Gecko components.

Started Quickbooks from the command line and the terminal output asked me install Mono.
Did that.

Started Quickbooks from the command line. Crashes with a complaint that it can't find the licence data (see image)

Quickbooks (not Quicken) hasn't worked in wine since circa version 2007 or so.

before your license data error, there is:

The bug reporter says he tried mono, but doesn't mention trying real .NET 2.0.

How about trying real .NET in a clean wineprefix?

If it helps, you should add a comment to the bug report saying that. If it doesn't, you should still update the bug report with a comment saying it is still an issue in 1.5.4.

1) Seems that .NET 4.0 is what ships on the Quickbooks disc, so I'm trying that, even though WINE says it likely won't work.

Please download gacutil-net40.tar.bz2 from http://www.mediafire.com/?v8rw5h1ra7maod4, place it in /home/barry/.cache/winetricks/dotnet40, then re-run this script.

Well, that didn't seem to go anywhere, so I'll try an older version of .NET.

2) Trying version 3.0 SP1 via Winetricks. .NET Framework 2.0 seems to be installing OK.

Now on to dotnetfx3.exe.
Now on to NetFx30SP1_x86.exe (XPS Essential Pack)

Which looks to me like it didn't install.

3) Version 2.0 anyone? Here goes. (not the "experimental" SP1 or 2) Claims to have installed.

4) Try installing Quickbooks from the terminal.

Installer crashed badly. I note that QB specifically asks for .NET v.4
