I also saw the "crashing when downloading" issue. Just relaunching the client "fixes" it, but of course that is not a permanent solution (yay for babysitting a 12.8GB download).

Anyways, looking at my error logs I get one of two errors when the client crashes:

Code: Select all

Regarding the log-in screen, it looks (and sounds) nice for me too. The only thing is that the maximize/minimize/close buttons look a little "off".

And yay, tomorrow is the day! :P

The dumps are 3-400 megs, and include a bunch of stuff at the end that isn't relevant, but I'm not sure how much.

It looks like lots of cleanup, but I'm not certain how to stop the log at the crash.

Do we know if they'll leave the fileserver available after the weekend so we can worry about this then?

I've been trying to get the installer to work on Mac OSX for the past few... hours. It doesn't seem to want to load (though the issue might be with my firewall more than Wine, yet I have no way of testing this theory at the current time)

pic related, it's a screenshot of what I see after a few minutes of waiting

What version of wine are you running?
I had similar problem with version 1.3 of wine. Upgrade to 1.5 fixed for me.

I've got Wine with Winebottler. it reports version 1.2.3 (just realized my sig didn't get posted with my first post)

One: That version is VERY old.
Two: Winebottler appears to be unsupported/abandonware.

I highly recommend removing Winebottler/Wine.app and installing Wine
through either MacPorts or Fink.

Looks ok, some graphical artifacts, but nothing too bad.
More details to follow!

When moving camera moving objects (Players npcs etc) flash black as if lighting wasn't affecting them.

Ultra shadows crashes client.

Framerate is abysmal (But that's probably just the game)

DON'T LOG OUT (The login server is so overflowing I couldn't get back in after tweaking some registry values)

Does anyone have a link to the list of error codes?

I would guess Iḿ just getting an overflowing login server, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Scratch that, after charr tut no more black characters, after manually inputting gfx card memory ultra shadows work.

Slow as dogshit - but that doesn't seem to be a linux specific issue :)

Trying to download the beta game files currently. However, the download always stops at some point, and when I try to resume, it starts at 0%.

Any suggestions?

It always starts at 0% of the remaining files. As long as you don't delete the gw2.dat file it will just continue to build it, and eventually it will be done :)

I played for about 2 hours without any problems.
Performance could be bit better but considering games is in beta / not optimized it was very playable. There are also many many people playing.

Friend of mine experienced crashes at cut scenes. Game was playable otherwise.

Thanks, still downloading 65000 files to go!

Good to know the game runs. Let's hope this gets a platinum rating just as its predecessor!

Compared to what windows users are reporting: I'd say it's already platinum

I am having a strange issue, I am on a mac, Wine 1.4 and 1.5 (tried both using mac ports), and I get white streaks everywhere on the screen. Has anyone else seen this? Is it an issue with my graphics card or something? (Picture attached)

Don't worry Tristanlogd, I have the same issue, and it's normal: Wine just can't render correctly weather effects ingame, such as rain, snow, smog. The Norn area is the most concerned by this issue though.

I've been able to play too! The framerate is bad however. I've read that windows users also are affected, because the game utilises the CPU more than the GPU at the moment.

But, for the first day of a beta, I'm surprised that it runs!

I recorded some footage on Arch 64 using Wine 1.5.2

You can see my specs in the description. The laggy frames are due to the lack of memory :( Need moar!

Thumbs up for platinum!

Maybe interesting to add my specs aswell:

Phenom X4 955, Radeon HD6870, 4G ram.

Playing at 1920x1080, max details or min details doesn't matter in fps. I'll try to capture a video later.

How do you record video? I get really nice frame rates, so would be nice to be able to show.

I use ffmpeg.

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -r 30 -f x11grab -s 1920x1200 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 gw_footage_1.mkv
Had to use pulseaudio to record sound on my computer :<

Good idea to post our specs.
Mine is:
Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits
AMD Athlon II X2 270 Processor X2 (3.4 GHz), Geforce GTS 250, 4 GB Ram.

I am playing at 1600x900 under Wine 1.4, max details. And don't forget to disable the shadows in the options, it helps a little.

Except for the known artefacts with wine, the game runs flawlessly as the lags come certainly from the server side.

As for the video capture, I have one that is generally good at constant framerate, but without sound:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -an -r 30 -f x11grab -s 1600x900 -i :0.0 -r 25 -s 1600x900 -sameq scast.avi
Of course, change the resolution to the one of your system.

I just uploaded two videos on my FTP account (click on the link), in order to shox what can be done with ffmpeg and the Gnome Shell built-in screencaster tool.

The videos are in webm format and should be compatible with recent web browsers (you can even download the videos).
As far as I know, only Firefox can enable fullscreen for HTML5 videos, that is why I posted them in such a high size (for other people/browsers).

Well, at least it can be useful to prove that Guild Wars 2 runs pretty well on Wine (for the skeptical that don't trust us) !
