Cannot Connect to Authentication Server - Mass Effect 1

So I bought ME1 off amazon and DL/Install went fine using Wine on my Macbook Pro with 10.6.8.

The 'launcher' for the game opens and when I click Play a message appears saying that it couldn't reach the authentication server and that I need to check my internet connection. The version of internet explorer that came pre-installed with Wine seems to be able to connect to the internet although it won't go to any webpages outside of the Wine Forums, FAQ and stuff.

I've disabled the OSX Firewall and it still doesn't work.

PLEASE HELP

Had the same issue with mass effect 3. I transfered the preinstalled game from Windows so I didn't have origin installed. All you have to do is install origin using wine and it should work.

So I downloaded origin but Wine wont open the installer which is called originthinsetup.exe

Nevermind, it installed but there was an error during install. It seems to have finished but origin wont open when I try to run the exe. Also, I found an option to configure the network settings within me1 and it sensed that there was a connection but still didn't work. The second time I opened the configuration it had just reset back to the default where it thought there was no connection...
