difference between OSS and ALSA when playing CS:S...why?

Post by Detructor »

Hey,

can someone explain me why CS:S is slower when I use ALSA instead of OSS? (with ALSA I've ca. 20-40 fps, with OSS I've 60-120 fps)
But why?

probably some leak in wine's alsa driver
since the OSS you have on your box is actually just an
OSS Wrapper for ALSA.

because one driver is more suitable for the application than the other

all the sound drivers are different. its one of the 'issues' with wine.

Are you using pulseaudio's wrappers when running Wine? What are the settings on winecfg page?

nope, I'm not using pulseaudio (I've tried it, but in ET:QW the sound don't match the events, so I have it disabled by default)

ATM I've a self compiled Wine1.0RC3.
Settings are default (no emulation)

If I only change the tick from OSS to ALSA (don't changing other settings) I get only 20 to 40 fps, if I change it back -> 60 to 120 fps

Set "Hardware Acceleration" to "Full" and try again.
