Can't login to EA Origin

Post by ZombieRedShirt »

I'm using wine 1.4-rc4 with a 64 bit wine prefix that's pretty much fresh, and I'm constantly having problems trying to actually login. I'll be able to log in for awhile, and then I'll go through hours of getting either a non-specific error message or something about a problem contacting the origin network. I'm hoping that someone else using origin can either confirm that they're having problems too, or if it's something else. If someone isn't having these issues, can they please detail exactly what their setup is?

Info, I'm running ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, wine 1.4-rc4, nvidia gtx 260, 8 gigs ram, that's about it.

Anyone out there? There's an appdb entry for Origin, but no mention of any problems like this has been made. I just need someone to either confirm that there's a problem with the origin service, or that it's something else.

I wish you luck with this, but you may have a hard time finding enough
people using Origin to troubleshoot it well. I'm sure there are users
out there, but the Origin terms of service made many gamers choose not
to use it.

I don't use Origin so I can't give you a definitive answer, but your description of the problem sounds like either a problem with their server or your network connection. Have you tried pinging the Origin server when you get those error messages?

You should probably post your question on a forum devoted to Origin. If it's a server issue, Windows users will be experiencing the problem, too.

Thanks for your responses, people. There are several posts on the Origin forums about trouble logging in and such, it's just difficult to pin down anything up to the minute, or to be sure that the problem isn't wine's. I'm not too sure of the response I'd get posting on the origin forum, even assuming that an EA rep actually responded, which doesn't happen too much, but I'll keep it in mind.
