Extremely illegible pixelated fonts?

Post by redss »

I installed and ran the windows game "Spore" but the fonts seem to be pixelated to such a low resolution that they are completely illegible. How can I fix this?

Here's a screenshot:

I have that problem too. I think it's because of the graphic card. The odd thing is that it worked on Ubuntu 11.04 without any problems, but now I have Ultimate Edition 3.3 and I have the same problems as you. So, I'd try Ubuntu 11.04 or 10.04.

Well that screenshot is from running Ubuntu 10.04. So you think it would work on 11.04 because you saw the same thing? Unfortunately I stay away from 11.04 since I much prefer gnome to unity. Maybe I should try a different graphics card...

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=13652
suggests you have to "enable S3 texture compression".
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=3792
says you can do this with driconf.

S3TC might not be available on all graphics cards, though.
What card are you using, and what driver?
