setup cannot find Office.en-us\branding.xml

Post by allen303allen »

HI ALL:
I want to setup office 2007 with wine, I use wine 1.3.36 on ubuntu 10.10. I am installing from an original directory which is copied from my windows machine(it works fine on my windows).
My steps are:
cd /home/hq/Office2007_en
wine setup.exe

I click the Install button and the window changes to "Installation Progress". Before it gets any further, a "Browse for Folder" window comes up and says "Setup cannot find Office.en-us\branding.xml. Browse to a valid installation source, and then click OK."
When I click OK, a similar notice shows up, and the cannot find file changs to Office.en-us\OfficeMUISet.xml, then is Office.en-us\OfficeMUI.xml, again and again, never ending loop, but I do have these files in Office.en-us fold.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.

What exactly is copied from the Windows machine? Was it a directory that was a copy of the install cd, or did you copy a directory to which Office was installed? The former should work, the latter probably won't.

Sorry for reply late, it should be the former, as the directory is from our company, they payed it and offer us the directory.
Now I also tried the wine 1.2.3, return the same problem. I saw some people met the same problem from google, but didn't found the solution for me. Please help.

What I get from googling is that that error is associated with illegal copies. I have a legitimate slipstreamed, volume-licensed copy from my employer, and I get no such error.

Then how can I know mine is a legitimate slipstreamed, volume-licensed copy or not?
I am trying to find another copy.

I am not an expert in licensing; what I do know is that holders of volume licenses must keep track of where they are deployed, and allowing employees to just copy a directory sounds fishy.

I don't know that much, but my employer's way should be legal, otherwise that'll be really a problem.
Maybe you are right, my copy might be modified, then it is considered to be an illegal copy. Without any extra work, an official copy of office 2007 with a legal licence works well on my machine.
Thanks for your reply.
