Wedisk: "ActiveX cannot be registered"

Post by Pandorabox »

Hello,

I am trying to install a Korean webhard system called "Wedisk" onto my Macbook through Wine. You may get the installer for free from this link: http://global.wedisk.co.kr/popup/activex_mainpop.jsp (The purple ⇓ is the installer for Windows XP)

Nevertheless, no matter how hard I tried to install this ActiveX component, it always failed, notifying "ActiveX cannot be registered." I have already installed Internet Explorer 7 through Winetricks, and all the other ActiveX components were installed successfully so far, and also operate without any difficulty on my IE 7. Only this one, Wedisk, is causing this strange problem.

I already tried registering the .ocx file (Wedisk.ocx) into the system32 folder in Wine C: Drive by myself, but it was all in vain. I borrowed my roommate's laptop (whose system is Windows XP) in order to extract the .ocx file, only to discover that it does not exist or is hidden somewhere. So I could not even find the file to register, let alone whether the manual registration would work.

I am currently so much confused and frustrated. I spent days and nights only to solve this problem, but everything went in vain. Would someone like to help me out please? Please.....

p.s : Sorry that it's a Korean program. So you won't really comprehend what it's saying clearly. Yet what's said in the last message during the installation is "ActiveX cannot be registered."

Hi,

this is just a guess, you could try to install WSH, using "winetricks wsh56" or "winetricks wsh57". That may resolve the ActiveX-problem, but Wedisk may still not work under wine. Does Wedisk try to install hardware drivers?

No, it doesn't. It is 100% internet software, and has nothing to do with installing a hardware driver.

Hi,

didn't know anything about Wedisk, so I asked about drivers. Please try one of the mentioned winetricks options.

The usual things: Please update to the latest wine release, 1.3.37, if you haven't already. Run from command line and post terminal output. If it still doesn't run and there's no obvious error in the output, you may file a bug.

But does the version 1.3.37 also support Internet Explorer 7? You see, this Wedisk thing is a webhard, so it obviously needs IE7 in order to work. I have been using 1.2.3 because I'd heard that it is the best so far in installing IE7.

Hi,

Generally speaking, 1.3.37 should bring much better support for ie7. I'm not urging you to update, you can try the mentioned winetricks option with your current installation. If everything works, there wouldn't be a need to update.

If it doesn't work, you should upgrade to latest wine, start with a fresh wineprefix (.wine folder), you may backup the old .wine folder, reinstall Wedisk and the other needed winetricks again. If still wouldn't work, you should file a bug.
