Wine OK on HP Mini 1000??
I recently got a mini 1000 with linux OS. I have always used windows and didn't know what OS was on the notebook until I started playing with it. I am slowly learning about linux, (very slowly). I want to download a windows program called " brain fitness Pro" onto my Mini. It appears that I need to download Wine first to accomplish this. I believe that the mini I have uses Gnome for The GUI? Could someone tell me what I need to do & please remember I am a first grader when it comes to computers in general and haven't even started school on linux! Thank goodness for this forum. I think that one day I will like the Linux OS. Thanks Much, Joe

You didn't say what distro is installed on that Mini, but if it is some customized version of Linux created by HP, you are going to have to ask HP customer support or a user support forum specific to your netbook how to install Wine on it.Joeonthelinux wrote:I recently got a mini 1000 with linux OS. If your netbook has a mainstream distro that provides Wine packages in its repository on it, you should be able to install Wine through your package manager, just as you would any other package. Links for the major distros that package Wine are on http://www.winehq.org/download/.

New Question
I hit Alt f2 and an application window came up. I typed in gksudo synaptic and a large list of apps came up. I chose wine---install, and it installed no problem. I then downloaded the program from windows (from a e-mail link). The link is good. The program downloaded into my desktop. When I click on it to open, It just sits there, it won't open and there is no message attached to it. Please Help!! How do I get it to open? Thanks Much, Joe

Wine 1.0
I also went to add /remove to see if wine was in there, but it is not. But it is installed on my system. How would I uninstall 1.0 ? Thanks a Lot
Re: Wine 1.0
1.0 is very old, so yes, you do want to uninstall it. The current version is 1.3.37. As to how to uninstall it, that's a matter of knowing how to use your package manager. Check the Ubuntu documentation, and ask on their forum if you need help with that. (That's assuming Ubuntu is what you have; you need to verify that, and also figure out which version of Ubuntu it is.)Joeonthelinux wrote:I also went to add /remove to see if wine was in there, but it is not. Once you've gotten 1.3.37 installed, follow these instructions to run the installer you downloaded: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-f351523 ... 8da63be66f
If the installer still doesn't work, follow the instructions in the link vitamin gave you to get a log and post it here. (If it's long, use a site like pastebin and post a link.)

still won't install
I "kinda" understand what Doug is saying(I am a white belt in linux). I uninstalled the programs and reinstalled them in terminal window. I typed gnome-terminal then my password and wine 1.3.13 was installed. At Least it shows up now on my computer. I downloaded brainfitness pro and its accompaning ink. file ok but again it won,t open. The file came with the typical set up install process, which I ran, but it still won't open and does not have any error messages. Thanks for any help. Joe
