I've installed WINE... what now

Post by pooky2483 »

I switched over to Ubuntu only last Friday and got WINE, now what I'd like to know is, how do I run the programs I had installed on my Windows?
Such as NERO11, Surething CD/DVD labeler and any other program that I had installed.
I think I have set WINE up correct? but how do I get to the Windows 'Desktop'?
It's all completely new to me.

Thanks
Pete

You should switch to native Linux apps to do those functions... it would be much better. Wine is just for those 1 or 2 programs which you have no choice but to use because nothing on Linux can do what you need. Part of switching to Linux is switching to native programs. Wine cannot run everything. If you only want to use your Windows software, you should be using Windows.

Other than that, Wine can be complicated to get started with, and I suggest that you start learning about it at the FAQ

You don't. You have to install them in Wine. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-497f1a2 ... 2c7767afa2

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look at them in a bit. Just installing Ubuntu on my wife's laptop, Her Windows had ground to a halt and wouldn't do anything. Even trying to open CCleaner took ages. So she decided 'Sod it, install it on my laptop'
So... I'll be a bit busy for a few mins lol... Not like installing Windows and all the updates to get it up-yo date, which takes ALL DAY.
