Ys Origin killed by update
Ys Origin killed by update
Having installed this little jewel, I proceed to test it.
Version 1.0.0.0 works "as advertised", getting into the title screen just fine.
As soon as I update to version 1.1.0.0 however, wine keeps giving me a crash dialog when I try to run it...

(the above one is from a wine which beyond winetricks allfonts and installation of this game is clean, on wine version 1.3.29)
Originally I tried this using WINE 1.2.3 using a wineprefix with loads of winetricks stuff installed, so I thought that might be an issue. I tried creating a clean one. No change. Tried upgrading to latest dev version. No change.
I thought the patch itself might be corrupt or something, so I tried both running the very same files on windows vista (on which it worked) and patching from a different source (leads to crashdialogue with same error).
If recent ratings on the AppDB are any indication, this game should work like a charm with the update. Surely I've missed something?
My OS is Linux Mint 10 32bit if that matters.

Thanks... Winetricks quartz really did solve it! Guess I did miss something after all (though how am I supposed to know I need quartz? Didn't find a single mention of it in the AppDB)...
And now I'm facing the challenge of getting past the intro... Bug is not new... Searching claims it's a locale slash font related issue... Switching OS locale to japanese doesn't help though.

Having crash in intro? This is game bug. I think patch from Falcom site fixed it for me, however I also did install patch from the Ys Origins Extra dvd first.
(As I installed english patch)
I'll sing up as maintaner for Ys origins later and update the appdb, the quartz thing could've seen in terminal log

As did I! I managed to get the game to run eventually, I set time date and currency format to japanese as well and then the locale caught on...Cloudef wrote:Having crash in intro? This is game bug. The game appears to run fine at first. Texture issues were fixed by setting the third slider from the bottom to the far left in config.exe, but a few rooms in I ran into a superannoying bug where the game arbitrarily decides that the character must walk in some random direction, usually down and left while ignoring half my own button presses. Exiting and re-entering the game temporarily fixes the issue, so so far I've been trying to play a "reach save point ASAP" game, but sometimes the difference between two savepoints is too big...
Awesome. Also, while not technically part of my problem, the game fails to load at all on wine 1.3.29 under the very exact settings under which it works in 1.2.3...I'll sing up as maintaner for Ys origins later and update the appdb, the quartz thing could've seen in terminal log

Some weird problems you are having, you could run regression test on 1.3.29 or try native d3d dll's, but as I'm using 1.3.30 and having absolutely no issues, expect that I had to patch the game and use native quartz.
Apart from that I play using gamepad, but keyboard has worked great too.

Upon further investigation, I've concluded that the bug where my character insists that a button that is not pressed actually is happens if I hold a button down during room transition. I am playing with the keyboard.
I'll try to see if 1.3.30 works fine as soon as my distro's repository updates. If not, I'll run a regression test. If it works, who cares why it didn't, right?
