WINE 1.3.30 Rocks!

Post by darinmiller »

Ever since Canonical removed native OSS support (removed in Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04), Starcraft sound has been very poor-i.e. scratchy, delayed, clipped, skipped, and sometimes no sound at all. I suspect PulseAudio had some part in it, but removing it broke so many other desktop sound functions.

Anyways, 1.3.30 with directsound works perfect-even with PA enabled! The new DIB engine seems to make Starcraft menu navigation and in- game panning extremely smooth (wish I had a way to quantify the improvement). Regardless, game play is definitely platinum.

So, even though I don't use CW to run windows apps, I renewed my CW's subscription (again) as another way say thanks for all the hard work!

I would like to join in praising the most recent version of Wine. For the very first time since most Linux distributions or DEs have mandated the use of PulseAudio, sound in Wine is working perfectly without needing to use 'dirty hacks' or unstable software. So, thanks to all Wine devs! :)

Glad the sound works good in Linux... several games using the CoreAudio driver (OSX) still has problems... like in Star Trek Online the sound just echoes itself over and over really fast and sounds highly annoying... so its still not perfect for sure.

Metatrader 5 stopped working

Post by bdheeman »

Metatrader 4 and 5 were running fine under wine-unstable-1.3.29, but the Metatrader 5 stopped working after I upgraded to wine-unstable-1.3.30 on a Debian machine.

I download and use binary packages for Debian wheezy(testing) from http://dev.carbon-project.org/debian/wine-unstable/

wine 1.3.30 fail with MT5

Post by din99 »

1.2.29 is running fine using ttf-symbol-replacement-wine-1.3 1.2.29-0ubuntu1

but installing 1.3.30 remove that ttf-symbol-... file without bringing a new one (ttf-symbol-replacement-wine-1.3 1.3.30-0ubuntu1...)

so this issue. winecfg dont warns but Metaquotes need it.

Why dont we get that new ttf-symbol-... file for 1.3.30 ?

This is clearly a packaging issue. Report the problem to your distro.

Just wanted to comment that the audio change in 1.3.30 fixed the lack of sound I had in Oblivion. I am happy about that. :)
