Backup, restore, and updates

Wine 1.1.42 on Debian Lenny - will backup entire /.wine tree; then restore to Mepis 11 (Debian Squeeze core). Wine 1.3.27 is available in the distro repository. Should I install Wine first or after the wine tree is on the new HD?

It should not make any difference at all.
