Problem with software installation - Panasonic Camcorder

Post by Ernest Doub »

I have a Panasonic Video Camera and need to install the software
[Quick Movie Magic and Motion DV Studio {plus the USB driver for the
camera}] so I can actually edit my movies on an Ubuntu system [10.04]
I have tried to install it through WINE with no success as my system
informs me that the software is read only and from an untrusted
source. Attempting to switch the executable bit through the provided
GUI toggle has no effect.

Help?
Anybody that can point me in the right direction?

medical mistake deaths in the US than there are accidental gun deaths.
Perhaps we need safety locks on doctors and nurses?

Windows software drivers don't work in Wine.

Obviously I was asleep at the wheel when I wrote that; I mean hardware drivers.

All of the camera driver files are .exe files. They all display the
wine icon when the directory is opened. Attempting to install one
gives the following message:

The file '/media/PANASONIC/USB_Driver/Video/setup.exe' is not marked
as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted
source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the
executable bit.

I have tried to flip the executable toggle through the GUI but it will
not stay flipped.
I can find lots of information describing the executable bit and how
it provides security but no information on how to take control of it.

1. You have a problem that is beyond the scope of this project if
flipping the executable bit does not stay set (that is if you are trying
to install from your hard drive.)

2. You were told that Hardware Drivers ARE NOT supported under Wine.
However, there is partial USB support available if you are willing to
build Wine. Please look at the USB page on the Wine Wiki for further
information. http://wiki.winehq.org/USB
