I followed the instructions on the Fallen Earth AppDB entry, including installing winhttp.dll through winetricks.
(Fallen Earth Mac/Wine Beta Client FAQ has info on getting the client, trial accounts are available.)
After entering account info the program downloads a base image of the game data (about 4GB) that brings the game system to version 1.9. Then it starts patching up to the latest version, 1.9.2. The program however never completes correctly, sometimes hanging indefinitely, sometimes closing down after throwing out an exception.
I'm hoping I can get some help to isolate the problem. I'm not sure if I should investigate it further or submit it as a bug with the info I already have.
I saved a relay log of about 1.5GB, and I have several dump files along the lines of:
FEUpdater-3.21-MiniDump_2-EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION-0x7EF740C0-2011.08.18-21.54.04.dmp
The console output shows a few errors early:

According to that FAQ, the client you are using is meant for Macs, not Linux, and uses Wineskin. Third party wrappers such as Wineskin are not supported here. I used the client called out in the AppDB for FE. I made a new prefix since apparently there's no good way to selectively undo changes made through winetricks.
I downloaded and ran the FE native windows installer, FallenEarth.msi, which seemed to work. FEUpdater.exe however fails very soon after launch, before it displays its own window on the "desktop."
