Ubuntu and Windows and Sage.........

Post by ubudunce »

Following on from my previous missive - now apparently resolved :D I now have another problem.
This time with Sage Line50 Ver11.
It appears to have installed OK and seems to link to the network share drive (G:), however it will not allow me (or anyone else) to log in.
If I use any good username, it comes back with "invalid password", even for users with no password. If I use any "invalid" username, it comes back with "invalid logon name".

Judging by that, It "sees" across the network, to establish who is and who isnt a valid login username, but doesnt appear to recognise any passwords.

My quandry is this......

Is this a Windows problem (permissions, maybe)?
Is this a Ubuntu/Wine problem?
Is this a Sage problem?
Is this encryption problem?
Is this a permutation of any or all of the above.

Does anyone have any ideas, bearing in mind my ignorance in this matters?

Further to the above, I have copied the "accdata" folder from the G: drive to the C: drive and the problems are exactly the same, so It doesnt seem (as stated above) to be network related.

I have just seenn this on another forum and, apart from going straight over my head :o, I post it on here in case it gives anyone a clue........

"I’ve just spent a couple of days screaming at Sage Line 50 trying to get it working over a VPN.
The application finds the data path, allows the user to select a company, but when credentials are entered, it says:

“You have entered an invalid password”.

I’ve checked the credentials at the local site and they work, so spent some time mystified.

Eventually I found the solution, but it had nothing to do with the VPN – it was actually an issue with the directory access that is assigned to the Saqe user.
If the application is installed by a different user (ie Administrator) then you need to allow Everyone full control access to the /Documents and Settings/All Users and all child objects within."

No-one??

94 views and no replies....

I have received this from another forum - would anyone like to comment?

"I've never used Wine so couldn't comment - Sage uses RSA Encryption for passwords so, if the folders are not there, I suspect it would cause the problem you are seeing. It would certainly explain the problem with the users with no password as, even with those, it effectively needs to decrypt a blank password."

The best? and only suggestion I have had so far is not to use Wine??? maybe you guys can comment? My confusion is that others seem to have used Sage on Wine, successfully, but having un-installed and installed several times, the problem is the same on both local and net based versions, so it has to be something at a fundamental layer...... A password interpretation problem seems to fit the bill, but whether it is a password entry, storage or comparison problem is beyond me at the present.

It's not clear to me what your current problem is. In your second post you said you had found the solution to the problem described in your initial post.

Ah! Sorry if it is a bit vague.

The above in red (see post2) is what I found on another web site, not my answer.
My current problem is that I have installed Sage Line50 Ver11 on a Ubuntu/Wine Computer and it has installed ok. When i get to the Logon prompt it comes back with either "invalid user" or invalid password". If "Invalid password", it is obviously recognising the user name as valid, but is not able to ratify the password as correct.
I still have this problem - ie an unusable Sage Line50. This is what I am trying to resolve.

Have you talked to Sage? Do they have a solution?

Sage do not support their software on non Windows software. I dont have support, because I have found them next to useless in the past.

Post terminal output. Also, what Wine version are you using? If it's not the latest development release, upgrade.

"Stable" in the case of Wine versions means "doesn't change much" not "runs better." Upgrade; even the most recent stable version is very old.

If upgrading doesn't fix it, follow these instructions to get a log: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

That is very wrong. It just means since the 1.2 series is bugfix only.
Any new 1.2.X release (which has not happened for a very long time)
should not break already working applications in 1.2.
