Two issues.
1. Probable regression in Wine v1.2.2 and 1.2.3 (v 1.2 ok):
- ACM / native WMP playback not working.
Tried to upgrade to 1.2.3, then 1.2.2 and they both cause the player (1by1) to hang, nothing written to console.
Revert back to v1.2 and acm works fine again.
2. Bug in Wine v1.3.x:
- ACM / native WMP playback (using libmpg123) elapsed track time advances too quickly (nearly two seconds elapse per one second of real mp3 playback).
For both issues have tried both ALSA and OSS sound drivers via winecfg, Tried wiping ~/.wine.
Have mpg123 v1.13.3 installed at /usr/lib, where wine expects it.
My l3codeca.acm is from XP sp3. size 290816, md5sum 452705ac9e4c0dde91a61f0e02292423
as per "6.11.4. MP3s do not play in Windows Media Player or applications that depend on it" at
http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-8cfe86e ... df2da7490e
Thanks for a really useful app!
Native mp3 playback winemp3.acm/l3codeca.acm regression?
Re: Native mp3 playback winemp3.acm/l3codeca.acm regression?
Not working with native overrides is not a Wine bug. That workaround you are using is for a broken Wine install (lacks libmpg123 and/or winemp3.acm). The real solution is to fix your Wine install. If your distro doesn't provide winemp3.acm in their packages, build it yourself.joki wrote:Two issues.

Re: Native mp3 playback winemp3.acm/l3codeca.acm regression?
Thanks for quick reply. Are you saying FAQ 6.11.4 needs updating as it's no longer relevant for 1.2.2 and above?dimesio wrote: Not working with native overrides is not a Wine bug. Puppy, slackware slax offcial pkgs all no longer work in 1.2.3.
If the 'l3codeca' workaround can be put back in then that's surely better than users having to build wine.
And re the dev line 1.3.x - ACM/WMP works (using libmpg123, not the workaround , i.e. l3codeca.acm not installed), however the reported elapsed time is around 1.5sec per 1 second of actual time.
Anyway, i'm happy with v1.2 for now as i have found a way to continue using it with the app which caused me to seek the wine upgrade in the first place.
Thanks, J
Re: Native mp3 playback winemp3.acm/l3codeca.acm regression?
I just tested the workaround in 1.3.27 and it still works fine. What I think is that you don't actually understand the purpose of the workaround, because what you have been saying is contradictory. If WMP works in Wine for you without the workaround, as you say it does, then you didn't need it in the first place.joki wrote:Are you saying FAQ 6.11.4 needs updating as it's no longer relevant for 1.2.2 and above?

As for the stable releases, bugs in 1.2.x versions of Wine only matter if they are still present in the current development release. You say this is not the case, so there is no bug to report.
WMP installs l3codeca.acm. I think what you mean is without an override for winemp3.acm. If this happens in a clean wineprefix (no other overrides, either), file a bug.And re the dev line 1.3.x - ACM/WMP works (using libmpg123, not the workaround , i.e. l3codeca.acm not installed), however the reported elapsed time is around 1.5sec per 1 second of actual time.
Re: Native mp3 playback winemp3.acm/l3codeca.acm regression?
what a way to reply to someone.
dimesio,
read my posts again - there is no contradiction.
I thought well maybe you have a point but no.
I know what the workaround is all about, read my posts.
wine 1.2.3 does not work regarding acm, workaround nor linmpg123, using official packages.
wine 1.3.26 kind of works with acm using libmpg123 (as i stated previously). there is a bug with reported elapsed time.
I have spent enough time on this for the benefit of the wine project without the hassle of bug filing, with attitude like that i'm off.
