dear people, first of all I am a newbie when it comes to ubuntu, wine and everything, so this is a disclaimer in the very probable case that I ask a stupid question.
The issue is this: I installed Rome Total war +barbarian invasion, which goes smoothly, when I start however the program asks for directx 9. what to do?
I use wine 1.3.26 and Ubuntu 10.10
I tried downloading patches, but failed to know how to continue, even tried installing directx but got issues after all. it seems to me that I try difficult options while the solution is actually very easy. I would be very grateful if someone could help me.

Please do so. There is an entry on how to get DirectX to work
properly. Also, you may have to start over with a Fresh or New
Wineprefix. How to do this is in the FAQ (http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ).

thanks jjmckenzie for taking time to respond. what I did now is installing direct x via wineprefix. Thanks for the suggestion, but so far no succes.
also I checked the link you gave me n the applications Database (actually I had looked there before) but I can't find the entry on directx. can you please specify where to look?

You won't find one. Wine has it's own DirectX implementation. Native DX will not work with exception of some helper dlls.Folkert wrote:I checked the link you gave me n the applications Database (actually I had looked there before) but I can't find the entry on directx.
Post terminal output you get when starting the game http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log
It sounds like you're running in to issues before you get to this stage, but there is a known regression in Rome Total War in wine 1.3.26:
