AudioSurf

Post by Alarms101 »

I have a couple of problems.

(this is all in fullscreen, I took pic's in minimized state to capture screen image (since alt prt sc is not working)

Okay so I enter Audio Surf and every thing is cool. Then when I click a mode I go to a screen (as shown in the image) and all of the text is jacked up. Then I open file popup browser, I select the song I want and then my a black/jacked up screen is shown (as seen in the pics)... I have Intel Chip Card and have ran AudioSurf before on my old os (removed windows). Why is this not working?

Well, I don't know what's causing that, but you can try the standard procedure:

1. If your WINE isn't up-to-date, make it so.
2. Check the AppDB: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=19964

And I suppose there's an ever-so-slight chance that running it in a virtual desktop will make it better.

The AppDB says to install dx3d9, gdiplus and dotnet20 (use winetricks).

Hope it moves you in the forward direction,
Jake

Thank your for replying.

I just installed all of that through wine tricks (as you recommended). The dx files shows as D3 on the install windows dll (and installed all of them). I clicked the virtual option as you said in wine.

And yet the same text problem keeps occurring and whenever I try to click the open pop-up browser the same incident (from pics posted) happens.

Update I have fixed part of the problem. The text problem I solved by updating audio surf (except sometimes files don't show up). However, now when I start playings I have a couple problems.

(I have it on the most minimum graphics)
1. If the bars (from the game) overload my game crashes.
2. If I click ESC during game, the game options are not readable
3. The games special feature does not show on the game screen. For example, the character eraser (from my memory) would show you like an icon showing you were about to get rid of a bar. This is invisible during the game, but still works (I am pretty sure when you hold right click an icon should show up, but if i am wrong let me know)

posted a pick of game crashing after I overloaded one side (with the blocks)

Keep an Eye On It

Post by SpawnHappyJake »

The AppDB doesn't say anything about emulating a virtual desktop to get this program to work; I just thought there was a slim possibility of that helping. Since it doesn't help, I'd undo that option.
Keep an eye on the AppDB for help. And if you figure something out that helps it to work in WINE, add that tip to the AppDB.

Cheers,

Because Intel's Linux drivers are inadequate for Wine; they can't even render Office 2007 apps correctly. If you want to play games in Wine, get an nVidia card. Even a cheap one will perform much better than what you have.

Well, WINE Has Its Limits.

Post by SpawnHappyJake »

Sorry, buddy. WINE has its limits. Those limits are getting less and less but there are still limits.
At least you don't have to rely on ReactOS! That thing would seriously CRUSH your hopes!
Since you have a copy of Windows, you can make a Windows virtual machine with the free and open source VirtualBox to run this game.
In fact, you can install VirtualBox Additions into Windows in the virtual machine and put it in that mode that makes a program ran in Windows in VirtualBox appear as a window over your Linux desktop. Your Windows Start Bar will be right on top of your Linux panel. It's a pretty slick mode.

Then again, maybe someone will find a combo of winetricks to get this to work in WINE. For example, the dxd3d and vcrun2008 are two winetricks that often get games to work in WINE. Corefonts often helps as well. I know that you already tried dxd3d, but if you want to try the other two, I don't see how it could hurt anything, just don't get your hopes up.
Also, someone might find helpful dll overrides.

But the biggest hope for getting this to work in WINE is to try it with each new version of WINE as they come out. And if it doesn't work with a new version, you can play with winetricks and dll overrides to try to get it to work. Then you try the next version. Then tinker with that version. And the process repeats until it works. Then it still repeats to make it work better.

Keep your chin up,
Jake
