I was considering using Linux, but i'm a gamer, is linux alright for gaming, like when battlefield 3, Elder scrolls V or MW3 or Rage come out will I be able to play the games at the same settings as on windows, I don't know much about linux.
Well, this will be kind of difficult... Wine doesn't emulate all games perfectly (only a handful of games), so if you are a hardcore gamer, like said before, stick with Windows. Although you may still give a shot on Crossover, which is a user-friendly interface which is quite easy to use. Voilà:

PROTIP: They have a list of which games they successfully emulate on any OS other than Shitdows.

You are always welcome to persue reading ratings in the Applications
Database for your favorite games/programs to discover what does or
does not work and what settings users had to use to get the game to
function and run well.
For now, if you want Windows performance, then you are forced to use Windows.

This might be necro-posting but this is practically only place which show-up if one tries to search in Wine AppDB for "Battlefield 3" so it is worth to mention that at current state of Wine-1.3.31 any game/application using:
1. .NET Framework higher then 2.0.
2. PunkBuster
3. StarForce protection.
Is not going to work, also needed to note is that not working ".NET Framework" higher then version 2.0 leads to inability to run any game/application that requires "Games For Windows Live" login.

'Elder scrolls V'
Oblivion and Fallout 3 games played decently with little nibbles here and there
'MW3'
Never had any problems with Call of Duty games or Modern warfare 1 & 2
Rage
Played excellently!

The xliveless dll works wonders for GTA IV and Bioshock 2.Is not going to work, also needed to note is that not working ".NET Framework" higher then version 2.0 leads to inability to run any game/application that requires "Games For Windows Live" login.

1. Nor "Call of Duty" nor "Elder scrolls" nor "Rage"series are using anything I mentioned.blaiseg07 wrote:'battlefield 3'

2. The noCD/noDVD, supported or not, some time simple doesn't exists because StarFORCE have different level of protection and if game have almost highest level, that means all it's data is cyphered and usually there is no noCD/noDVD for such games.
3. I'd like to see you play "Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War 2" with "xliveless.dll".
