Run-time error '429':
I have read and read and read and cannot seem to figure this out.
I am running Linux Mint 9 and trying to install a windows program that will never have a linux alternative. It is a locksmith code data base program called Code Source. Also has two accompanying programs: COA and Master King.
Install requirements are simply windows 98 and newer OS according to HPC's (manufacture) website. there is a registration code that has to be put in too, but that isn't the issue. I have three valid install codes (for different windows machines) and three more left that I can get... but of course linux isn't supported. I've also figured a way past the algorithm so I can essentially have the "same installation" across both windows (xp) and linux.
Anyhow, I get a "Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object" message when I click the icon on the desktop. Clicking the icon in the Wine menu, I simply get "File not found".
Most of the things I have tried have spanned over the past year, so I don't remember all that I've already tried, but mostly it has involved .dll files. I'm not too linux literate, but manage to get around in the terminal as long as I have very detailed set of instructions to go off of. I have tried to work with winetricks with no luck and even tried play on linux lately.
Will it help if I copy and paste a terminal output when trying to open the program that way?
Thank you

Re: Run-time error '429':
Yes, please provide the output from terminal. However, if it is more than one screen in length, it might be better to use a site like pastebin.com and then provide only the URL to the pastie. (That is what they call it.)140 wrote:I have read and read and read and cannot seem to figure this out.

OK, the terminal output for Code Source is different than for Master King.

Nothing there that should cause problems. These are related to missing OLE functions and functions that display Icons and other screen 'goodies'. I get these constantly when using e-SWord and the program is not missing any functionality (excepting missing EM_FORMATRANGE functions.)140 wrote:OK, the terminal output for Code Source is different than for Master King.

Run-time error '429':

This is normal for running a program in Wine. For some reason I had a much longer output yesterday.
**********8@HP-Linux ~ $ wine start 'C:\Program Files\HPCSoft\MasterKing32\MasterKing.exe'
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100
Is there more to the log file than this?
The first of the two output posts is complete. That is only for one of the three programs. All give the same error message when opening though. Most of my reading has had me trying to install active x in wine. Which I know isn't supposed to be required but who knows. Also, cannot open the Active X control pad in my Wine menu. Perhaps I didn't get everything dialed in right when when configuring wine dll's?

This is just a guess and comes without warranty, but you might need to install Windows Scripting Host, this can be done by "winetricks wsh56", maybe you need to install a version of Internet Explorer, too. I'd recommend to backup your .wine folder before, if it doesn't work, you can simply copy/move it back.

Re: Run-time error '429':
I guess since this thread is still able to be posted to, I am going to revive it.
To answer the person asking if I ever resolved the issue: No. I finally gave up and began using Windoze for work and Linux for everything else. Until last week...
I bought a new laptop (cheap Asus X551) with Windoze 8.1 and realized why I originally started looking for alternatives in the first place. I am back at trying to get this program up and working in Linux.
I wiped the hard drive clean of Microsoft's latest operating system and installed Mint 17, so although I still have three computers that run XP and either Mint 9 or 13, there is no going back on the new laptop. It's Mint or nothing.
I installed Wine, and some various other stuff off of the repositories hoping that things have come along enough over the past three years that Code Source would just magically install with no issues.... keep dreaming. After the install of HPC Code Source, I ended up with two new icons on the Mint home screen. One is Code Source with the icon as it would appear in a Windoze environment and the other says CodeSource.Ink. Clicking on either one will bring up the Code Source splash screen followed by "Code Source 3.0", "Run-time error '445': Object doesn't support this action". There is a button to click "OK" and that's as far as it goes.
Can someone please help with figuring out how to ditch Microsoft once and for all?

Re: Run-time error '429':
Wine version? If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. If the problem is present in current Wine, post terminal output.
Re: Run-time error '429':
The version of Wine in the Mint 17 package manager is 1:1.6.2. You will have to forgive me... I don't remember how to try to run the program from Wine in the terminal. I did find a command that I used in the terminal on the internet and I was able to get one step closer. It was a winetricks command. At this point the program will load to the point where it asks for company information and the serial number on the CD's case, so I will need to get that section figured out next. Even though it is not functioning correctly, I don't think that is something that wine can help with, as it is more of an input / output algorythm.
