windows live compatibility

Post by lain »

hi,
i was thinking ... wine have a lot of update !! a lot of new bug corrected ! but why wine team doesn't work to the windows live compatibility ?
'cause Amsn is not really good with the new msnProtocole
so the best way to have perfectely msn on linux is to have msn 2009 (or 2011 but i prefer the 2009 version) on wine !!

sorry for my poor english

No one works on that because no one needs it. Use native Linux programs instead. There are number of good multi-protocol IM clients.

That is not a good answer man!!!
However, that IS the answer you are going to get here. Wine puts
programs like Windows Live on the 'back burner' because there are MacOSX
and Linux IM clients that support it.

Then use something other then amsn. Or don't use msn at all. There are number of competing networks that actually do work fine on platforms other then Windows.

Pidgin connects to Live accounts as well as several others, makes it
nice to run one IM client no matter which service friends/family use.

WordPerfect 12 does NOT exist for Linux, but does for MacOSX (which is a
small segment of the users for Wine).

The Gecko engine is based on Chrome. Thus we DO have to get it to work
on Wine.

As to the Windows Live problem, you STILL have other IM clients that
work with it. If the list does not, contact the maintainers of those
products.

Lastly, fixing Windows Live is a 'back burner' project. There are other
ways to connect to it, and using Wine may actually be prohibited in some
jurisdictions (read the NEW EULA that Microsoft is slapping on their
products.) Microsoft has a ship load (500+) lawyers under contract to
enforce them and other items like patents.

No it's not. Chrome uses WebKit (the same engine that Safari uses).
Gecko is Firefox's engine.

Thank you for the correction. Thus Chrome like Safari for Windows can
and should be on the back burner. Getting Firefox to work with Wine is
a different story then?

?

Gecko and Chrome have nothing to do with each other.

But to the larger question of why work on fixing bugs in the
windows versions of apps that are also available for Linux:
sometimes it's worth it. For instance,
if they're open source and have unit test suites,
or if the bug reports are really good and free trials are available.
