Clean install, jsut got Ubuntu 8.04, installed 1.0-rc1 off package manager, tried using the .59 version then went back to 1.0-rc1
edit - somtimes I need to do somethign to make it update, however that is a simple as clicking the drop down arrow next to the person you are taking tos name, also sending a message updates or or even typing.

It works for me in 0.9.58 through 1.0rc1; I haven't had to reinstall. AsideIt doesn't work for me, but I had installed Steam with Wine v0.9.59. Did
you do a clean install with v1.0rc1?

urm???
ok, this may be a major problem if it is linked. I am hoping and think that most likely it isn't liked but at the same time that steam chat works, one of my partitions was wiped taking a lot of linux with it, thankfully nothing fundamental. The partition that went was my DATA partition with all my programs and documents.
I don't think this has anything to do with wine but if anyone else has the same problem it may be worth looking.

In either case, if the files weren't writable to the user you were running as,
it wasn't wine. This gets tricky to troubleshoot if you're running as root:
All files are writeable to that user.

Do you use Gnome? There was a bug in Nautilus that could cause data loss:

Re: STEAM CHAT WORKS!!!!
Confirmed... Except for HIM changing status, start up a chat, type something then start changing my own status (just clicking through the list for awhile). Eventually, it will update the screen and continue to work.MadnessRed wrote:I was in steam wondering if there was any cahnce of getting steam chat to work. It's a bit of a hassle (and I haven't had the opportunity to try it with multiple chats going), but it seems to work without fail.
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and wine 1.0RC3
AMD Athlon XP 2.2GHz
2GB DDR1 RAM (Dual-Channel)
Nvidia Geforce 6800n
