Wine is suddenly really slow

Post by LagunaLoire »

Over the past few days, programs have suddenly been taking quite a long time to load. Before, everything would pretty much load instantly, but all of a sudden everything takes 1-2 minutes to load up.

I'm fairly certain I haven't made any changes to Wine or any other processes (other than regular system updates) so I have no idea what the problem is. Even the Wine configuration screen takes ages to load!

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 w/ Wine 1.2.2. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Post terminal output from running winecfg.

Should have thought of this first: do you have a network printer that's been unreachable during this time? If yes, don't bother with the terminal output, as that's the cause. If no, post the terminal output.

Hey,

Nah, nothing to do with a network printer. I ran winecfg and got this:

err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

It still loaded though (eventually).

Oh hey, I might've fixed this!

I just ran "wineboot --update" in the terminal and now everything's back to normal speed. Will post again tomorrow to see if it stays like this after reboot. :)

Sorry for triple post!

Okay, upon reboot, everything's slow again :/

However, if I run "wineboot --update" in the terminal, everything speeds up again!

Any ideas? I'd prefer not to have to run this command every time I boot up my computer <_<

I get all this when I run this command too:

What are you running that needs/requires this service?

This can be fixed by installing the Visual C++ 2005 runtime. This is
done using winetricks (http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks).

Please read the web page for information on how to get and use this script.
