I have managed to get the Launcher a bit further than 'stuck at the SOE logo'.

First off, check you Internet Explorer is working correctly (wine iexplore.exe) by navigating to http://launch.soe.com/lp3/index.html?ga ... &skin=dcuo. I now get a Flash object that states 'There was a problem determing the game information'. At first, I didn't get anything and it turned out I had a non-functioning IE install.

Next, install Flash (using winetricks).

Third, open Launchpad-user.ini and add "curtain=disable" (without the quotes).

Last, start Launchpad.exe. I get the same message as when navigating to the link above. It appears that Flash (or ActiveX) cannot detect the game.

I am using the Steam version btw, but not using Steam to launch.

That's sort of where I am just now too thou I didn't do the curtain=disable thing.

The issue I'm now having is that the foreground component of the Launchpad is in the background (and vise-versa)

Also I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, this is not something I can switch away from

I had the patcher working perfectly running Ubuntu 32 bit with wine 1.3.12. I already had vcrun2005 and wininet installed with winetricks. I also installed ie8, flash, winhttp. I was able to get the patcher to work, and allow me to start the game but it crashes as soon as you hit start. I tried this on 64 bit but it told me i didnt have enough memory to play the game (wine apparently can misrepresent the amount of installed ram) so i had to use 32 bit to get this far. The game appears to completely crash at that point though. Hope this was helpful. I would love to play this on Linux, its making me keep a windows partition.

I tried again on a new prefix, and got the launcher working.

I have installed wine-gecko-1.2.0-beta1, ie68 (with winetricks-alpha) and flash. Now the Launcher works, although graphical corruption still occurs; the flash-object is moved a bit to the left, and I can't access the Options menu.

After installing d3dx9, vcrun2005 and vcrun2008, I tried to start the game. I navigated to 'Unreal3/Binaries/Win32' and try to see if the game would start by doing 'wine ./dcgame.exe'. Unfortunately, I did not work for me. Damn you ATI, with your bad shader support :( I got loads of

Code: Select all

fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log Error received from GLSL shader #1:
fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log     Vertex shader(s) linked, fragment shader(s) linked.

Hmm... running in a virtual desktop allows me to start the game :) I'll be activating my subscription to try to play!

After downloading 12 GB with the Launcher, restarting the Launcher to dowload some more patches, I was able to play the game! Create a new character and start in the starting area! All effect on high @ 1920x1080. FPS seemed fine.

Unfortunately for me, I have a ATI graphics card and I could not see my character model; not while creating the character or in-game. Fairly difficult to spot enemies and loot as well :p Interface look OK, menus worked, non-movable ingame objects where rendered.

I tried orm=backbuffer and UseGLSL=disabled, but both resulted a message that I didn't meet the requirements. Lowering the shadow quality in-game did't help. Any tips?

Did you use Vmware or Virtualbox and what version of windows did you run in the virtual machine?

Sorry misread what you wrote, you meant you enabled the virtual desktop option in wine. Awesome, i'm installing now to try this out. I have an nvidia gtx 260 so hopefully i can get a little further than you did.

It works amazingly well for about 10 seconds and then crashes. The graphics work on full and sound works. Everything works, until it crashes 10 seconds later. Here is my terminal output...maybe you have an idea?

No idea. Can you create a character? Can you play for a bit before it crashes?

I did not yet have any crashes, but then again I stopped playing quite quickly as I couldn't see the enemies...

I am using the latest git-version of wine, have set up a virtual desktop in wine, and selected that DirectX may contain the mouse in the window.

Also, it looks like you're launching the game through Steam. Try launching Launchpad.exe manually.

I have been playing a bit without player models and managed to get through the starting area and off the ship. No crashes so far.

Quite strange: no playermodels, but somehow cloaks do appear. Yay for floating capes!

I also ran into the following bug: Mouse "escapes" window or is confined to an area in the full screen program, causing me not being able to turn 360. Using the patch provided solved that one.

Yeah I'm hitting this issue to now. What was the patch you used?

ps. I can confirm this works in Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit

How do you enable this patch? I patched the source and re-configured/compiled and it didn't fix the mouse issue. Tried configuring with "--with-xinput" and/or "--with-xinput2" but no dice.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you are missing some development libraries. I think it is libxi-dev. You might also want to try running autoreconf.

After configure, run

Code: Select all

cat include/config.h | grep HAVE_LIBXINPUT2
It should return

Code: Select all

#define HAVE_LIBXINPUT2 1
You don't need any configure options to enable XInput2.

Ahhh, looks like my issue is that I wasn't building wine-32, I was building 64 and it just wasn't being used and it won't work anyway.

I cannot seem to get the right combination of magics to build 32bit on my 64bit system, despite having all of the files/etc.

Aaaaanyway, guess I'll have to hope this works its way into Wine releases.

Try something like:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In ... _in_Arch64

You'll have to fill in the details of how to install your distribution's 32bit basesystem. Better yet, you could switch to Arch :D

Once you have a basesystem installed installed in a chroot jail, get the wine source with like:
$ git clone git://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git wine/

Which will put the wine source in your pwd inside the directory "wine"; make sure your chroot has installed your distribution's equivalent of build-essential; then
$ cd wine
$ CFLAGS="-march=i686 -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" \
LDFLAGS="-s" \
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --verbose;

Wait for configure to finish. WINE will tell you which packages it lacks. Some are optional, some are required. You'll have to do a little bit of investigation to make sure your build has support for all the features you want. Next, you can make the package. To speed things up, add the -j flag followed by the number of CPU's you have +1. For instance, for a four core machine:
$ make -j 5

Its best to install your package in a isolated path. Make a dir like /home/you/build and then from the source dir, do:
$ make DESTDIR=/home/you/build/$( ./wine --version)-$( date +%Y%m%d ) install

HOW IT WORKS:
The "$( ./wine --version)-$( date +%Y%m%d )" will direct make to make another directory underneath your /home/you/build path that is named after WINE, its version, and the date. From this stage on you could use your distribution's package manager to carry on from this point, or, you can cd to whichever directory "/home/you/build/$( ./wine --version)-$( date +%Y%m%d )" made, and then do:
$ tar cf - * | ( cd /; sudo tar xf - )

This installs the package. You can uninstall it again by deleting just the same files in that directory from root. You can get a list of files with something like:
$ find * -type f

from that directory.

When WINE has received more git commits, you can sync your source code by cd'ing to your wine source code directory and:
$ git reset --hard origin; git fetch; get rebase origin

Then repeat the your build starting from the "./configure" step. Go back to the Arch wiki article and scroll down to read about executing WINE programs (or any 32bit programs inside the chroot) from outside the chroot with the schroot program.

Hope this helps, cheers
