new with Mac, trying to play FFXIV, please help
I managed to find some good information on how to play this game without having to run windows on my mac ( i bought a mac for a reason), andI have hit a wall.
to get this game to run i need to do this -
Game Install works without any DLL overrides.
Patching works perfectly with wininet and winhttp overrides. (Surprised by how fast it actually was)
Plays perfectly with winhttp overrides and winetricks on directx9, xact and ie6
Sound is great with Emulation@44100.
now what does the overrides mean and how do i do it?
any help would be appreciated.

you can set up overrides easy in winecfg on the Library tab
http://wiki.winehq.org/winecfg
if you use Winetricks (http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks) to install most of this stuff, it will do the install and set the overrides correctly for you.
overriding is basically overriding a Wine version of doing something with a MS version. Like... overriding a Wine DirectX dll file with one from Microsoft's direct x version.

it does...kingznake wrote:Im actually using Crossover, so im not sure if that makes a difference
this forum is for plain Wine... Crossover is highly customized, and they have their own support forums. While overriding is the same thing, and you also have winecfg... there may be other things that need to be done.. I have no idea, I stopped using Crossover several versions ago.
if you downloaded the source code... you'll have to compile it. There is no binary download for OSX, only source code. They have GUI stuff for Linux, but nothing for OSX yet, so yes its all command line.

The easiest way to get it to build right is to actually use Macports and let it take care of compiling everything for you.
a 3rd party tool of any type, including Crossover, is a good way to go for ease of use, but you have to get help from those 3rd parties really. Crossover should have an entry and forum for the game.

Sounds like you installed another 3rd party Wine software... winetricks built in with tick boxes? maybe Darwine or Winebottler? still this isn't the place to get support from any 3rd party software.kingznake wrote:Ok finally got wine running, it had a winetricks menu built it. So I owner in o it and tcked all the required boxes that they suggested in the link in my OP, but when installing d3dx9 it just hangs there and won't go any further.
If you want a 3rd party software to run this... I'd suggest going back to Crossover and getting help on Crossover forums, or if you want to use Wineskin, I can try to help you some with that, since I make it, but not here on this forum... its all off topic as this forum is for plain Wine only.
