460 GTX performance on SC 2

Post by defenestrator »

Hello,

I'm trying to play SC2 with the following setup, and it's only playable with the lowest settings. I think I've already put in most of the tweaks that people typically point to.

Can I get advice on how I can get reasonable fps for higher settings?

Here's my setup:

GTX 460 1GB
Intel Q6600 2.40ghz Quadcore
3gb memory

nvidia 260.19.06
wine 1.3.3

screen resolution: 1920x1200
wine direct3d settings:
DirectDrawRenderer: opengl
Multisampling: disabled
OffscreenRenderingMode: fbo
UseGLSL: disabled
VertexShaderMode: hardware
VideoMemorySize: 1024

Thanks.

I have the same GPU, but an even better CPU and my SC2 performance is terrible. Help from anyone would be appreciated.

I'm curious as to whether this is a problem with the nvidia driver or wine?

if Blizzard is doing the same with SC2 as they are with WOW they are moving toward the GLL Api for the MACs for all new graphics and OpenGL is getting the shaft.

this could mean blizzard game will become unplayable under wine unless there is some way to use the GLL that Blizzard is coding for.

There could be a possible distro/kernel related issue to do with CPU scaling which may or may not apply to your situation.
