New Steam Client 2010 GUI
I tried the new Steam GUI in Ubuntu using Wine, and well it fails to start. I am not sure why, but it does.

As the AppDB demands, just set its version to Windows 7. After that, make sure you make those Valve bastards pay for what they keep doing.

Fire up Wine Config (Terminal->winecfg). From there, it's pretty straightforward. You can set Windows 7 as the default version for ALL apps, or you could go to "Add an Application" and add Steam.exe to it and only set the exception on it.cryptodan wrote:How would I do that?jorl17 wrote:As the AppDB demands, just set its version to Windows 7. I am running wine 1.1.43 in Debian Squeeze (32 bit) and still receive this error. My console gets flooded with the message "fixme:threadpool:RtlQueueWorkItem Flags 0x4 not supported" after I login to steam and as soon as the main steam menu appears, it crashes. Has anyone else still received problems with the new steam GUI?

Fixme's are to notify you that some of the Windows API code has not been
implemented. They are not errors and may or may not affect your ability
to run a particular program.
BTW, what is the program you are trying to run and have you visited the
Applications Database to see if there is a fix or even if the program
will install/run in Wine?

The crash he talked about may also be related to missing fonts.
See bug #22751.

It looks like this bug has reappeared in 1.3.0 as I'm getting exactly the same issue as before.

Selecting Windows7 for steam makes no difference, it just requested you install an additional package before failing.
I'm running Gentoo~x86_64 in case it's relevant.
Any ideas? I'm going to downgrade wine to see if the fault vanishes.
