Age of Empires

I installed Age of Empire Gold (AOE1), and when I try to play it, an error message comes up saying I need to check to see if my video card is compatible with directdraw. It said the same thing when I tried playing the demo version of Diabo II. But I also downloaded Diablo I which used the direct draw thing too and it worked.
