.. doesn't work for me. I'm running a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 with wine 1.3.
If I open the desktop integration tab an try to install a theme the winecfg hangs. Installing a theme to windows/resources/themes doesn't help - it is not show in the list of themes after a restart ...

[Wine 1.3] Desktop integration with .msstyles
Re: [Wine 1.3] Desktop integration with .msstyles
I am running LinuxMint 9 (which is based on and compatible with Ubuntu 10.04) and wine 1.3 (although I installed the themes I use under 1.2) and they're working fine for me.Lastcoder wrote:.. doesn't work for me. I'm running a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 with wine 1.3.

In fact, I just installed a known working theme into my current WINEPREFIX's winecfg, and it installed and showed up fine in the list.
So my question would be, how precisely are you "installing" the desktop themes you desire to use? I found it necessary to unpack the archive to a folder (which I keep in a designated 'storage area') prior to running winecfg and selecting the extracted *.msstyles file. It appears that only the *.msstyles file of the selected theme is copied to /windows/resources/themes/themename (I didn't change themes to the theme I just installed from the theme currently in use, and only the msstyles theme from the theme currently in use is in my windows/resources themes), but even so, it must need the theme resources (the textures) available in some way in order to display them.
And I would expect that if those resources were not available, the application would crash (required file not found will always cause any application to stop cold), hence my question as to your installation procedure.
Hope this helps.

I simply press "Install Theme .." button and it hangs. I even don't get to the point where I could choose themes ...motub wrote:I am running LinuxMint 9 (which is based on and compatible with Ubuntu 10.04) and wine 1.3 (although I installed the themes I use under 1.2) and they're working fine for me.Lastcoder wrote:.. doesn't work for me. I wouldn't recommend to use themes in Wine in the first place. The current design of the Wine theming code is not correct (and it is also incomplete) which causes a lot of rendering issues and not to forget bad performance (most issues are not fixable in the current design). The only themes which are safe are color only themes.
I would actually agree with this to a great extent. I do use a textured theme, but I have noticed that I need to exclude certain/many applications to either increase their performance, or correct rendering errors that don't occur when the theme is off.Thunderbird wrote:I wouldn't recommend to use themes in Wine in the first place. That said, however, that begs the question of why the file chooser is hanging in winecfg-- Lastcoder says that s/he cannot even choose a theme, because winecfg hangs when s/he tries to open the file chooser.
I would ask if this is the case in other areas of winecfg (or Wine applications in general on your system). For example, does winecfg hang if you try to select an application to add to the applications list (to set settings for a specific application distinct from the default settings), select a new drive mount point in the Drives tab, or set one of the desktop folders (desktop, my documents, my pictures, etc) to a different folder in the Desktop Integration tab? Do you have any installed Windows applications that require/allow you to select a file to open from a file chooser (such as Word, or a media player, or WinRAR or some such)? Are there any errors in the terminal to suggest why the file chooser is hanging? If so, please post them.
Hope this helps.

Ok .. nice to know, maybe a hint could be shown in winecfg ..Thunderbird wrote:I wouldn't recommend to use themes in Wine in the first place. Removed Wine 1.3. (installed via ppa) and installed wine 1.2 from the official Ubuntu repositories .. now everything works fine ...motub wrote: ... with wine 1.3 I couldn't start some applications like Autostitcher .. now this works ..
Maybe a problem between wine 1.3 and lucid lynx ?!?
