Add a shortcut for Wine's Internet Explorer

Post by fernandocarvalho »

Create a shortcut for Wine's Internet Explorer in wine's menu entry.
It should help people test more easily this new feature that is being improved in this wine development cycle.

I think that an Open Source Internet Explorer implementation would help a lot, because many applications, mainly those related with Home Banking are Internet Explorer dependent, and people are forbidden to use open source applications to accomplish these tasks.
So this will be a great feature for people switching to Open Source.

That would be a lot of work and difficult to have 100% compatibly.

If your bank insists on using IE, switch banks. There are more problems
than just using that with that particular bank. My bank in the U.S.
even supports Chrome.

In some countries, it is impossible to find a bank that don't rely on M$ software.
For example, in South Korea, there is a law, that ensure that all transactions are made using IE technologies.

No, if a website requires an ActiveX control or an Visual Basic Script to be executed, you will not be able to render this site on any other browser, even if you are on Windows.
Search for more info, and you will find that there are some websites that only work on Internet Explorer.

I understand this. This is why requiring IE and IE only is BAD.
However, I cannot tell the Government of the Republic of Korea what to do.

Let me check what the site I work with does with Firefox. It uses
ActiveX extensively...

Thus, making IE work under Wine is a valuable task. Right now IE6
mostly works, IE7 somewhat works and IE8 does not work.
