The file is not marked as an executable??? How to?

Post by QuicheLoraine »

I get the error, "The file 'media/cdrom/autoplay.exe' is not marked as an executable"...and won't let me mark it as an executable in the permissions, "permission denied" when attempting to run the startup for Adobe CS4 Design Premium. Ubuntu Lucid LTS, BTW. I have tried to install from Wine both from the menu and the terminal per the information I found on the wiki, but no go. Anyone? Very Frustrating. :?

Known bug in Ubuntu Lucid. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/561479
The bug report gives some workarounds.

Thank you for replying. While I am not a complete novice, let's just assume I am...I read the bug report, which seemed to be mostly developers and folks who have much more experience than I. Other than what I had already attempted before my initial posting, much of which was suggested there- added the install to the applications, tried command line install, tried to double click the icon on the desktop and right click and open with Wine with the icon on my desktop, the autorun and setup, tried to select "read and write" for owner, tick the "execute" button under properties>permissions on all three, even downloaded the binary extras (am I missing something?), I am stumped. Likewise when I right click and try to "run with Autorun prompt" it says it cannot find the autorun, and right clicking on properties, half the time it says the permissions for "cdrom0" cannot be determined. Is there a step-by-step command line fix or workaround that you or anyone else knows of? How to make Ubuntu recognise and execute an executable. Thank you.

My understanding from the bug report is that the Ubuntu wine1.2 packages have fixed this problem by disabling "cautious launcher." If you're using the latest development release and still having problems, ask on the Ubuntu forum.

Search the forums: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=44106

(THis should actually get an FAQ entry... I'm not in a mood to edit it
currently...)

Thank you Gert and dimesio! I'm going to try to update my sources and see if that helps, and if not, I'll try your suggestion Gert. Much appreciated!

It now pulls up the Adobe CS4 Design Premium install window since I updated Wine, but I still get an error, this time "The program setup.exe (or autoplay.exe) has encountered a serious problem and needs to close..."

I alternatively tried copying the contents of the first disc in a folder on my desktop, and it will allow me to make the autoplay.exe and setup.exe executable, unlike trying to make it executable from right clicking the CS4 icon "Properties", but I get the same error.

I read the above mentioned article about mounting (per Gert), and from the command prompt "sudo dmesg" found the disc is "udf"??? But still couldn't figure out what I needed to do...nothing seemed to work per the commands.

Extremely confused.

If only my Graphic Design program would let me use Inkscape...and Ubuntu!
