WoW on Ubuntu 10.04
Hi, some time ago i've installed WoW in Ubuntu 9.10 using wine 1.1.42 (wine1.2 ubuntu package). Everything fine, had a few fps problems but with some tips found in wowwiki i've manage to increase fps to about 20. Some users would say it's still low, but i was happy with it.
Well, some weeks ago i've updated to Ubuntu lucid (10.04). It's great, but my WoW fps drop down to about 5-10 which is very low. I've tried a few more tips to increase fps and even downloaded the latest Wine in the ppa repository, but nothing helped. I've read somewhere here in wine hq that ubuntu 10.04 doesn't support low-end hardware but i don't know what is that...
I'm using:
Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHz, 32bit
2GB ram
NVidia GF FX 5200 grafics card
Ubuntu 10.04
kernel 2.6.32-23-generic
wine 1.2 (latest from ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu)
Nvidia video driver 173.14.25 (also latest for my card)
does anyone have a clue of what may i do?
thanks

Similar behaviour under WIne 1.2 and Ubuntu 10.04
Hi,
I have installed WOW Classic and Burning Crusade and added all WOW patches. I am playing only Burning Crusade, no WOTLK.
I manage to start WOW. There is no sound, the resolution is lousy and all motion is discontinuous. (4 fps) I am using a Nvidia 6600GT card and the newest Nvidia driver 195.36.24. Under XP all is running fine and smooth with best resolution.
I am looking for ideas for improvement. In this state the WOW is running under WINE 1.2. but any playing iis not reasonable.

Hallo,

I have installed now your Nvidia 195.36.31 driver. Nothing changed with Wow. I am using this Config.wtf file:
Any idea what should be changed?

Svgt,
try adding the line
SET gxApi "opengl"
in you config.wtf file. This will cause WoW to use Opengl instead of direct3D. It should increase (a lot) your performance.
Otherwise, if your already using opengl then we are stuck in the same problem.
here's my config.wtf:
Getting just about four fps too, with GF FX 5200 and nvidia driver 173.14.25 (newest for my old card).
Also, using ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) and wine 1.2 (latest from ppa), a combination rated as "platinum" in Wine HQ. So, don't know why i'm getting so low fps...
thanks[/code]

Fango:
I tried your SET proposal. fps increased from 4 ro 5 fps.
I am using Nvidia 195.36.31 driver with a newer Nvidia 6600GT card. I have sent a message at the address of the maintainer, Scott Ritchie. Perhaps some help comes from him?
tparker: Please give us some information about your fine running installation.
Thanks in advance.
