no audo in ubuntu 10.04

Recently installed 10.04, and am basically a linux newbie. There is no sound, and no volume icon in the upper right corner of my screen (or anywhere else). Any ideas about what I should do?

That has nothing to to with Wine. Ask on the Ubuntu forum.
