Playing Neverwinter Nights

Post by D4L1D4Y »

I've installed Neverwinter Nights using a wrapper in Wineskin, but when given the option to select an EXE I don't know which to pick. I've systematically gone through all the different things I think are most likely, but nothing lets me run the game.

With some .exe files, such as nwmain.exe (which i thought would be the one) the whole Wineskin program simply stops responding.

I apologise if the answer to this is simple, this is the first time I've attempted using Wineskin and I'm completely baffled.

Thanks in advance.

I can answer your questions.. but this is not Wineskin support... Wineskin is highly customized (for many reasons) on OSX... although it does use stock unmodified Wine builds (by default)...

Please direct questions about Wineskin to either the support form on...
http://wineskin.doh123.com/
or you can become a member on the forums at....
http://portingteam.com
where there is a Wineskin section

If you using the NWN wrapper i built, its very very old. I just got done rebuilding a better NWN2 one, and haven't gotten back to NWN1 yet. That said NWN1 runs very easily in Wine and shouldn't be a problem.

If you installing NWN in normal Wineskin by yourself (which I'm assuming you are since its asking about found .exe files) and not a NWN customized wrapper, then you need to make sure you go in WineskinSettings.app and to Screen Options and either put it in fullscreen mode, or make it run Rootless in a Virtual Desktop (Rootless with normal windows will NOT work right). nwmain.exe is the main program... nwn.exe will also launch it, plus it will give you the main menu where you can do settings and updates/patches. Do not try to mess with the graphics settings there too much, or the Toolset, or it will most likely crash. If you press play on the nwn.exe launcher it will just run nwmain.exe for you. Make sure you get it patched up to 1.69 so that it doesn't need the discs to play anymore.

Sorry for posting in the wrong place, and thanks for the rapid response... I've tried your fullscreen advice and it's still not working. Where can I find the NWN1 wrapper you've created please?

Thanks again,

Thanks again,
whats your system specs? I have to try hard to get NWN to not run... its basically platinum... running just fine with a default install of Wine with no modifications... have you patched up to 1.69?

my NWN wrapper (and the new one I'll update sometime tomorrow) I post threads about on the official forums.... but I think the file is not available there anymore... I've moved stuff around. I'm going to be re-doing it with a better version tomorrow, and I'll post up info about it on the Mac forum.
