Diablo on Wine
Diablo on Wine
Hi,
at first i have to mention, that i am an freshman in Linux. I am working with it since half a year and still trying to get the basic-knowledge.
Nevertheless I've wanted to install Diablo, my favourite game, on Wine. But when I start the setup.exe with the 'Wine-Windows-Emulator' and choose the installation-path, only an video-sequence starts, then it returnes to desktop.
When I look into the directory I've installed the game in, there are some datas but the .exe doesn't work.
So my question is, have i made some mistakes by installing wine, just typed "yum install wine" into the shell", or did I have to do something special to install Diablo.
I'll be greatful for every hint or solution.

THX, I've read every post on that link and couldn't find one adequate to my problem.
To ensure that Wine is running properly, I installed and tested an different game( Diablo II + LOD) without any failures. But Diablo I just don't want to get installed.
Some detailed informations:
PC: Dell Inspirion 9400 Notebook
OS: Fedora 8
Wine: 0.9.58
GPU: Nvidia Geforce Go 7800 with Livna-Driver
What could I have done wrong?
- I've mounted the CD and started the Setup with Wine
- I've chosen an installation-path and pressed OK
After that, an video-sequence starts and at the end of this it returns to the Desktop.
By the way, here is the output from the Console:
Mfg

Diablo on Wine
My guess is that it's the Livna-Driver. I have never heard of that one
(neither I do have experience with GeForce Go)... I'd suggest to try
with the official NVIDIA driver and see if that helps.

fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_WaitForVerticalBlank (0x127330)->(1,(nil)): Stub
Also, check your xorg.conf and see if you have the needed video mode
and depth, If that doesn't work, then try running WINE in a virtual
desktop.
Good luck.

Livna is just an repository I thought, installed is an normal NVIDIA driver 169.12.DARKGuy wrote:My guess is that it's the Livna-Driver. I have never heard of that one
(neither I do have experience with GeForce Go)... I'd suggest to try
with the official NVIDIA driver and see if that helps.

fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_WaitForVerticalBlank (0x127330)->(1,(nil)): Stub
Also, check your xorg.conf and see if you have the needed video mode
and depth, If that doesn't work, then try running WINE in a virtual
desktop.
Good luck.
I've tired to start it in an virtual-desktop with the same results. But now, there is in Applications - Wine - Programs an folder called Diablo, even after the deinstallation.
Anyway thanks for the hint

I would suggest to try asking in your distro's mailing list or help
IRC channel, at least I don't think this is the place for asking that
since this list is more geared towards WINE-related stuff, and
reinstalling a video driver isn't a WINE-related thing =).
Good luck!
