Wine and Parted Magic and Asus and Fingerprints

Post by tron »

So I had stuff in the Asus Data Security Manager and I only had it locked by fingerprint, no typed password. My computer isn't starting for whatever reason so I'm planning on switching to Windows 7 but I need to get the data from my vault. I was hoping I could open the program through wine so I installed wine on my parted magic and booted up through usb and I click the security manager exe and choose wine but nothing happens. Any ideas? and if I can open it, will the fingerprint reader even work since I'm in parted magic and not vista?

Help is much appreciated

Sorry not going to work tron. Really there was a password. A password you have lost tron. Fingerprint unlocks stored password. Some of those Data Secuirty Managars of the OS is still running are undo by konboot.

What is required is true data recovery.

I don't follow. So it's already too late? What's konboot? Can I just take the vault and store it on my external drive and then reopen it in security manager once I install w7?

If you know the password it was encoded with tron you can normally access on another machine change OS is not something you would expect to work without asking the maker about it.

konboot allows you to log into windows without entering a password. Password hash gets loaded instead. There are a few so called protection programs that use the windows password hash as key looked closer at this one and it does not use windows password hash.

Problem here with finger print scanning was not the password. Its only a way to unlock the password. So from what you are saying it either blank password or a password you have forgotten. Tron this is the true issue with using so called biometric logins you end up forgetting the important bit of information the real password.

Basically I am not a expert with the program you are dealing with. Send a message to Asus and find out if recovery is possible on windows 7. Some of these encryption programs require the same version of windows to open.

thanks so much for the responses, the password should be blank underneath the fingerprint. i don't see konboot helping because the problem isn't that i forgot my normal password, it's that windows won't start up because there's something wrong with the files that the startup disc won't fix. good idea with the call asus, i'll do that
